    Abstract: A child safety seat has a seat body, a support structure, a first releasable coupling for connecting the support structure to a motor vehicle and a second releasable coupling for connecting the seat body to the support structure. The support structure includes an upwardly facing abutment surface positioned above the seat portion of an adult vehicle seat and in front of the backrest portion thereof, when the first coupling is engaged. The second coupling is arranged to hold the seat body in rigid abutment with the abutment surface on the support structure either so that the seat body is facing forwardly in the vehicle or so that the seat body is facing rearwardly in the vehicle.

    Abstract: A child safety seat for use in a vehicle comprises a seat body having a seat portion and a backrest portion. In order to connect the seat body to a motor vehicle, a pair of attachment buckles are mounted by rigid links on opposite sides of the seat body for movement between first and second positions. In the first position, the buckles project rearwardly so as to be engageable with two anchorage units which are rigidly fixed to the vehicle body so as to be accessible between the seat portion and the backrest portion of the vehicle seat. In the second position, the buckles provide support for guides for an adult seat belt.

    Abstract: A safety device for enabling a child to use an adult vehicle safety belt of the type having a shoulder strap and a lap strap consists of a cushion (50) having a respective belt retainer (54, 56) on each side thereof, under which the lap strap of the adult safety belt engages. An auxiliary strap (14) is attached to the cushion so as to extend from the back thereof and has a belt guide connector (18) secured to its free end. In use, the belt guide connector slidably receives the shoulder strap of the adult belt so that the shoulder strap extends in front of, and the auxiliary strap extends behind the child's torso with the belt guide connector located above the child's shoulder.

    Abstract: A buckle for a safety harness consists of two identical parts. Each part comprises a plate 10 having a D-shaped aperture 12 in one end, for receiving a harness, and a portion 14 at the other end folded at right angles to the rest of the plate 10 along an oblique fold line 16. A slot 18 extends half way along the fold line 16. A second plate 20 has a tab 22 welded to the portion 14 of the plate 10 at the side thereof adjacent to the slot 18. The two parts interlock with the upstanding portions 14 and 22 of one part projecting through the slot 18 in the other and vice versa. Tension applied to a harness connected to the apertures 12 tends to draw the ends 24 of the slots 18 into abutment with each other.

    Abstract: A safety seat for a vehicle of the type comprising a shell 10 forming a seat portion 12 a back portion 14 and two side portions 16 and 18, which are covered by a fabric seat cover 50, is made adjustable in width by providing a plurality of filler strips 54, 56 which fit between the cover 50 and the side portions 16 and 18 of the shell so as to adjust the interior width of the seat. Lateral head restraint pads 58 and 60 may also be provided. The seat is particularly suitable for use by a growing physically handicapped child who requires lateral support when seated in a motor vehicle at an age when his contemporaries are capable of sitting in a vehicle without such support.
