    Abstract: A wireless router having a WiFi wireless network and including a small cell for routing LTE cellular data to a mobile network core is configured to monitor connected mobile devices and determine whether each mobile device should be connect to the hub using WiFi or LTE in accordance with the current utilization of the WiFi network and the current utilization of the LTE small cell. Since the small cell data traffic is encrypted in a data tunnel to the mobile network core, the network identity information of the device's WiFi interface and the device's LTE interface is determined by consulting an address mapping store in the cellular mobile network core.

The malicious encrypted traffic inhibitor and method utilize an estimated measure of entropy for a portion of network traffic communicated over a network connection via the computer network. The estimated measure of entropy is calculated as a measure of a degree of indeterminacy of information communicated via the network connection, such as an estimated measure of Shannon entropy, and then compared with a reference measure of entropy for malicious encrypted network traffic. If the estimated measure of entropy for traffic communicated via the computer network is sufficiently similar to the reference measure of entropy, a positive identification of malicious traffic on the computer network can be output.

    Abstract: An outage of a cellular base station is detected by a neighboring base station when a beacon signal previously stored by the neighbor in respect of the base station being monitored is compared with the result of a subsequent search for that signal and found to have deteriorated or ceases to be detected. If the search identifies such an event, the search is repeated at a shorter interval and an outage is reported to a management center if the base station also fails to be detected on subsequent consecutive sampling cycles. This avoids false alarms from reboots and other transitory losses of signal that would be caused by an outage report based on a single loss of signal.
