  • Patent number: 4608791
Abstract: A fully adjustable, simplified system for installing a sloping roof on top of an existing flat roof is disclosed. Top and bottom roof spanning members are interconnected by individually vertically adjustable stanchions and the stanchions in the system are cross-braced in two orthogonal planes. The top and bottom spanning members of the system can be parallel or perpendicular to each other and the bottom spanning members can be eliminated and replaced by individual bearing plates where the existing roof structure allows direct loading at localized points. The system utilizes precut and prepunched components and utilizes offset hole punching to achieve a fine degree of adjustability which renders the system highly versatile.

  • Patent number: 4573127
Abstract: Certain calendar events, such as the standard/daylight time transition or a holiday such as Labor Day, always occur on the same alphabetic day always having the same relationship to the beginning or end of the same month in any year; however, their numeric day varies from year to year. In order to update the numeric day of such a calendar event that is used by a microprocessor of a programmable electronic real-time load controller, the microprocessor selects a reference day value representing the numeric day of the calendar event in a given year and selects a reference year value representing the numeric year of that year. At the beginning of each real-time year, the microprocessor determines a real-time year value representing the numeric year of the real-time year, determines a current numeric day value for the calendar event from the reference day value, the reference year value, and the real-time year value, and stores the current numeric day value for use during the current real-time year.

  • Patent number: 4557098
Abstract: A deformable sleeve for centering a roof panel mounting tab on a roof panel attachment clip unit prior to installation of the clip unit and the roof panels on a building. The centering sleeve has an elongated body with two sides, one edge of each side being connected together by hinge structure, and the opposite edge of each side having a mounting facilitating flange extending therealong. In order to increase the deformability of the sleeve, cutouts are provided in at least one edge of each side, and preferably in both edges of each side. These cutouts may be of various shapes including semi-elliptical, V-shaped, rectangular shaped, or square shaped. A modification of the mounting facilitating flange includes a thickened portion extending along the non-hinged edge of each sleeve side to facilitate the mounting of the sleeve on a support piece of the roof panel attachment clip unit.

  • Patent number: 4543760
Abstract: A clip unit for attaching a standing seam roof to a building structural element includes a base with a cross-piece mounted thereon. A one-piece tab is slidably mounted on the cross-piece and is interfolded into the standing seam used to attach two roof panels together to attach those panels to the clip unit. The base is attached to a building structural element, such as a purlin, or the like, so that the roof panels are attached to that structural element in a manner which permits thermally induced panel movement to be accommodated. Another embodiment has a tab integral with a base which has a rod therewith which rod in turn is slidable along an eyebolt which is attached to a building structural element.

  • Patent number: 4483152
Abstract: A multiple chiller control system includes a temperature controller TC, a data base and optimizer DBO, and a plurality of driven-servo loops DSL1, DSL2, . . . DSLn. The temperature controller and the data base and optimizer monitor various parameters of the chilled water system. At periodic intervals, the system determines and stores the current values of these parameters. From this data, and from data determined from operator-selected signals supplied to the temperature controller, the temperature controller determines if a change in total operating capacity is required. If this determination is affirmative, the temperature contoller supplies a request for a system capacity adjustment to the data base and optimizer, which then proceeds to select the chillers to be operated and to adjust the capacity of the chillers so selected.
