  • Patent number: 4345733
Abstract: A chair seat mounting device comprises a platelike support bracket that can be fastened to a chair base and a mounting plate that can be fastened to the underside of the chair seat. The plate automatically tilts forward on an axle on the bracket when the person sitting in the chair leans forward and his or her weight overcomes a spring mechanism that yieldably restrains the seat in the normal, upright position.

  • Patent number: 4333683
Abstract: A chair comprises a unitary seat and lower back and a separate upper back mounted on the lower back to tilt backward from a yieldably restrained, relatively upright position by at least one resilient articulating linkage. The chair may also have a second seat component nested in and slidable forward and backward on the seat portion of the unitary seat and lower back.

  • Patent number: 4157203
Abstract: A back for a chair comprises at least one back-supporting frame member, a lower back mounted on the frame member for backward tilting movement about a first horizontal, transverse axis and yieldably restrained against such backward tilting and an upper back mounted on the lower back for tilting movement relative to and independently of the lower back about a second horizontal, transverse axis spaced a substantial distance above the first axis and yieldably restrained against such backward tilting. The axis about which the lower back tilts is located a substantial distance above the seat at a location corresponding to about the middle of the back of an adult human sitting in the chair.

  • Patent number: 4131260
Abstract: The seat of a chair is mounted on a post or other supporting member by a seat mount which permits the seat to tilt forward (front end down) to a forward and downward rake of about 41/2.degree.. A bracket connected to the seat and located under generally the center of the seat pivots on an axle that is received and supported by a mounting plate rigidly fastened to the supporting member. Springs compressed between the mounting plate and the bracket restrain the seat from tilting down, and co-engageable stop surfaces associated with the bracket and mounting plate limit the extent of tilting of the seat (both forward and backward rake, when the latter is provided for). By joining the mounting plate and bracket by parallel front and rear axles fixed to the bracket and arranged to disengage axle-engaging surfaces on the plate, or vice versa, the seat can tilt both forward and backward; in this mode, the seat pivots or rocks on one axle, and the other axle disengages the axle-engaging surface.

  • Patent number: 4084850
Abstract: Optimal body weight distribution and excellent sacro-lumbar support is provided by a chair which changes configuration automatically to support the body in any sitting posture. The chair seat is mounted on a pair of laterally spaced-apart, elongated, substantially parallel seat supports disposed lengthwise of the chair, and the seat has sleeves that are received telescopically on the seat supports for sliding movement such that the seat slides forward and backward, relative to the chair back. The back tilts independently of the seat to conform to the sitting posture of a person sitting in the chair.

  • Patent number: 4043063
Abstract: An appointment calendar comprises a ring-type binder, at least one page having a pocket and a flap which partially slips into the pocket, and an insertion having two leaves, one of the leaves being received in the pocket to hold the insertion in place in the calendar and the other leaf, which contains printed promotional, decorative or informative matter, overlying the pocket so that the printed matter is visible. The pocket is closed along all margins except along an opening adjacent the edge of the page that is engaged in the binder. The binder rings engage the flap and a part of the page which is non-pocketed but do not engage the pocket or the insertion.
