Abstract: Disclosed is a lubricating oil composition comprising the reaction product of a nitrogen containing reactant wherein the nitrogen containing reactant comprises an alkyl di-alkanolamide, an alkyl di-alkanolamine, or mixtures thereof; an acidic molybdenum compound; and a salicylate compound. Also disclosed is a method for operating an internal combustion engine comprising said lubricating composition and a method for preparing a molybdenum containing friction modifier.
Abstract: A lubricating oil composition having a sulfur content of up to about 0.4 wt. % and a sulfated ash content of up to about 0.5 wt. % as determined by ASTM D874 is disclosed which comprises (a) a major amount of an oil of lubricating viscosity; (b) at least one oil-soluble or dispersed oil-stable boron-containing compound having greater than 400 ppm of boron, based upon the total mass of the composition; and (c) at least one oil-soluble or dispersed oil-stable molybdenum-containing compound having at least about 1100 ppm of molybdenum, based upon the total mass of the composition; wherein the lubricating oil composition has a ratio of sulfur to molybdenum of less than or equal to about 4:1.

Abstract: Disclosed is a method of preparing terminally functionalized telechelic polymers using a cationic living polymer product or a terminal tert-chloride chain end of a carbocationic quasiliving polymer product, which comprises quenching the polymer product with a functionalized N-substituted pyrrole to thereby introduce the functionalized N-substituted pyrrole at the terminal reactive polymer chain end(s). Abstract: We provide a SAE 15W-30 lubricating oil, comprising: a Group II base oil having a KV at 100° C. from 5.0 to 8.0 mm2/s; a second Group II base oil having a KV at 100° C. from 10 to 14 mm2/s; a DI additive package designed to meet API CJ-4; and 0.50 to 4.95 wt % viscosity modifier; wherein the lubricating oil has a TBN from 8.55 to 11.00 and provides an Induction Time in a CMOT from 270 to 450 minutes. We also provide a process for making the lubricating oil, comprising: blending the Group II base oils to make a blended base oil mixture and adding to the blended base oil mixture: a DI additive package designed to meet API CJ-4, and a viscosity modifier; wherein the lubricating oil has a TBN from 8.55 to 11.00 and provides an Induction Time in a CMOT from 270 to 450 minutes.
