Abstract: The use of alkaline carbonate salts in a method of manufacturing an aqueous composition of calcium carbonate by grinding. These salts make it possible to reduce the quantity of grinding aid agents implemented, which are water-soluble homopolymers or copolymers of acrylic acid. These homopolymers or copolymers greatly contribute to increasing the carbon dioxide content of the atmosphere, and are derived from raw materials that come from a fossil fuel: by limiting their quantity, both the environment and our natural resources are preserved.
Abstract: The invention pertains to the use as a coupling agent, in a method for manufacturing self-binding particles by grinding at least one latex binder and at least one mineral material in an aqueous medium, of an aqueous solution of a fully or partially acidic water-soluble copolymer, present during the step of grinding, wherein the copolymer is made up of at least one ethylenically-unsaturated anionic monomer, and at least one ethylenically-unsaturated oxyalkylated monomer terminated by a hydrophobic alkyl, alkylaryl, arylakyl, or aryl chain having 10 to 32 carbon atoms.
Abstract: The use of an amine in a method to manufacture an aqueous suspension of mineral matter by dispersion and/or grinding in the presence of at least one acrylic polymer. The amine enables the quantity of polymer dispersant to be reduced. In a preferred embodiment the quantity of acrylic dispersant is reduced, whilst keeping the same mineral matter content, and maintaining or even improving the rheology of the suspension over time.
Abstract: The invention consists of the use of phosphoric acid, in a method for concentrating an aqueous dispersion or suspension of calcium carbonate in the presence of at least one acrylic dispersing agent, as an agent for reducing the quantity of free dispersing agent, i.e. the fraction of acrylic dispersing agent not adsorbed onto the surface of the particles of the calcium carbonate and present in the aqueous phase. It also pertains to the aqueous dispersions or suspensions of calcium carbonate, exhibiting a reduced quantity of free dispersing agent.
Abstract: The invention resides in the use, as an agent reducing the viscosity of a thermoplastic or thermosetting paste filled with a calcium carbonate, of a calcium carbonate characterised in that it is obtained by dry-grinding, firstly, and in that it is dry-ground in the presence of a grinding aid agent which is a copolymer of (meth)acrylic acid with a monomer containing an alcoxy or hydroxy polyalkyleneglycol group, secondly. The invention also concerns the filled thermoplastic and thermosetting pastes obtained in this manner.

Abstract: Non water-soluble polymers with a comb structure and a (meth)acrylic skeleton on which are grafted side chains containing at least one hydrophobic monomer of the styrene or (meth)acrylic ester type on C1 to C4, and at least one hydroxy or methoxy polylakylene glycol monomer. The levels of monomers are such that the polymer is amphiphilic because it is both rich in hydrophobic monomer and polylakylene glycol monomer. These products, used in paper coating dispersions, enable an increase in their Brookfield™ viscosity, a reduction in their ACAV viscosity, and an improvement in their water retention, which makes them particularly well suited for dry extract and/or high deposit speed coatings.
Abstract: The present invention consists in the use, in a process of manufacture of a composition with a water and hydraulic binder base, of a rheological additive characterised in that it is an emulsion of at least one non-cross-linked copolymer, consisting of: a) (meth)acrylic acid, b) alkyl(meth)acrylate having 1 to 25 carbon atoms, c) a monomer of formula R1—(R2O)m—R3, in which: R1 designates a radical containing a polymerisable unsaturated group, R2O designates an alkylene oxide group having 1 to 6 carbon atoms, m is an integer between 20 and 30, preferentially between 23 and 27, and is very preferentially equal to 25, R3 designates a linear or branched alkyl chain having 28 to 33 carbon atoms, preferentially 30 to 33 carbon atoms, and very preferentially having 32 carbon atoms. The invention also concerns the formulations thus obtained.
Abstract: The present invention pertains to new alkali swellable thickening emulsions, free of surfactants and solvents other than water: as a result, all drawbacks related to the use of solvents, or to the formation of foam in the case of surfactants, are avoided. These new emulsions contain a certain quantity of 2-acrylamido-2-methylpropane sulfonic acid (or AMPS, CAS #: 40623-75-4). They have proven effective at thickening aqueous mediums, particularly water-based paints, paper coatings, aqueous suspensions of mineral materials, detergents, cosmetic formulations, or formulations containing a hydraulic binder.
