Patents Assigned to CyberSource Corporation
  • Patent number: 10282180
Abstract: A merchant generates a customized service strategy related to a suite of electronic transaction services hosted by a service provider. The custom strategy specifies services to perform, and possibly an order in which to perform the services, by a service provider in relation to an electronic transaction associated with the merchant. Through use of a user interface, the strategy can be represented as a graphical decision tree, with terminal nodes representing services or actions. A customized strategy is transmitted to a service provider, as is transaction related information, whereby the service provider can service the transaction according to the strategy and based on the transaction information. Scheduling information that specifies different strategies to apply to different transaction scenarios can be generated. A strategy is selected by a service provider based on the scheduling information and transaction information, and is used to service one or more electronic transactions.

  • Patent number: 8326760
Abstract: In an embodiment, a data processing method comprises obtaining a plurality of first transaction data items for a proposed online credit card purchase transaction that has been recommended for review; obtaining a plurality of second transaction data items for a set of similar past online credit card purchase transactions, wherein each member of the set has one or more transaction feature values that are similar to the transaction data items of the proposed online credit card purchase transaction, and a decision value specifying whether the member was accepted or rejected by a reviewer; obtaining a stored data model of features, feature values, transaction acceptance decisions and rejection decisions of the reviewer based at least in part on the set, determining, based on applying the first transaction data items to the stored data model and a subsequent query to the database among more recent transactions that were not included during model construction, a likelihood value of a particular decision of whether t

  • Publication number: 20120066044
Abstract: An electronic stored value certificate processing system is provided in which a certificate processor (112) issues stored value certificates to consumers in association with an online merchant (108), and redeems the certificates to a receiver as value received for products or services of the merchant. The certificate processor issues a graphical virtual stored value certificate in the name of the merchant. The stored value gift certificate processor interacts logically and exclusively with the merchant, and the merchant controls interaction with the consumer. Using a Promotions Certificate, merchants can send a file of consumer email address and the amount or value of each certificate to the stored value gift processor. The stored value gift processor creates, loads, and issues the Promotions Certificates using email. A consumer receiving a Promotions Certificate can use it at the merchant's online store in exchange for goods and services.

  • Patent number: 8019678
Abstract: Transaction information is received and applied to multiple fraud risk mathematical models that each produce a respective raw score, which are transformed with respective sigmoidal transform functions to produce optimized likelihood of fraud risk estimates to provide to a merchant. Respective fraud risk estimates are combined using fusion proportions associated with the respective risk estimates, producing a single point risk estimate, which is transformed with a sigmoidal function to produce an optimized single point risk estimate. The sigmoidal functions approximate a relationship between risk estimates produced by fraud risk detection models and a percentage of transactions associated with respective risk estimates; the relationship is represented in terms of real-world distributions of fraudulent and non-fraudulent transaction.

  • Patent number: 7970701
Abstract: A technique for evaluating fraud risk in e-commerce transactions between consumer and a merchant is disclosed. The merchant requests service from the system using a secure, open messaging protocol. An e-commerce transaction or electronic purchase order is received from the merchant, the level of risk associated with each order is measured, and a risk score is returned. In one embodiment, data validation, highly predictive artificial intelligence pattern matching, network data aggregation and negative file checks are used. The system performs analysis including data integrity checks and correlation analyses based on characteristics of the transaction. Other analysis includes comparison of the current transaction against known fraudulent transactions, and a search of a transaction history database to identify abnormal patterns, name and address changes, and defrauders.

  • Patent number: 7752084
Abstract: A computer-implemented method is disclosed, where first information that is related to a current commercial transaction that is being evaluated for fraud is received, either directly or indirectly, from a consumer through an online service or internet. The computer obtains an internet address from which the first information is received from the consumer. In response to obtaining the internet address, the computer accesses at least one database to obtain a second information on a plurality of commercial transactions that have been previously associated with the internet address from which the first information is received from the consumer. An indication is produced on whether the current commercial transaction is fraudulent based on correlating at least one subset of the second information and at least one subset of the first information.

  • Patent number: 7707117
Abstract: A method and apparatus are disclosed for communicating state information in an electronic message. First data representing a state of an electronic transaction is encoded, to result in creating an encoded message element that is impractical for a recipient to decode. For example, steganographic invisibility encoding may be used. The encoded message element is sent as part of a first message associated with the transaction. A second message associated with the transaction is received, and the third message includes the encoded message element. The encoded message element is decoded, to result in recovering the state of the transaction, which is used in processing the second message. As a result, large volumes of state information are sent to clients for local, transitory storage, precluding the need for a large state data store on the server side.

  • Patent number: 7209561
Abstract: A method for generating a seed value for use in symmetric encryption includes creating and storing a first data set and generating a hashed value based on the first data set. A replacement position in the first data set is selected, and at least a portion of the hashed value is written into the first data set at the replacement position. A seed portion of the first data set is selected as the seed value. By varying a number of iterations, a balance can be struck between performance (fewer iterations) and security (more iterations).

  • Patent number: 7174455
Abstract: A system and method for delivering a digital product electronically is disclosed. The system and method comprises providing an electronic license certificate (ELC) from an end-user to a server and then validating the ELC by the server. Finally, the method and system includes sending the digital product from the server to the user based upon validation of the electronic license certificate by the server. Accordingly, a digital product delivery system that is based on the concept of an active license (AL) which contains a plurality of active license objects (ALPOs) is disclosed. An ALPO is a software program that contains a digitally signed certificate document that may entitle the holder to receive, possess, and use a specific product.

  • Patent number: 7096192
Abstract: A method and system for detecting fraud in a credit card transaction between consumer and a merchant over the Internet. The method and system comprises obtaining credit card information relating to the transaction from the consumer; and verifying the credit card information based upon a variety of parameters. The variety of parameters are weighted so as to provide a merchant with a quantifiable indication of whether the credit card transaction is fraudulent. In so doing, an integrated verification system is provided which allows a merchant, or the like, to accurately and efficiently determine the validity of a transaction over the Internet.

  • Patent number: 6216153
Abstract: A system and method for displaying and processing information on a computer or communicating with a remote server is disclosed. The method and system include providing a browser and providing a thin server. The browser is configured to allow a user to view information and enter information. The thin server is for communicating with the browser, for allowing the browser to display information provided from the thin server, and for allowing the browser to provide information entered by the user to the thin server. In one aspect, the thin server is not substantially extensible. In another aspect, the thin server is configured to accept a connection only from the browser. The thin server allows communication between the browser and a remote server through communication between the browser and the thin server and communication between the remote server and the thin server. In yet another aspect, the method and system further include providing at least one local resource.
