Abstract: Systems and methods provide thermal monitoring during updates to firmware used by managed hardware of an Information Handling System (IHS). A remote access controller of the IHS, that operates separate from CPUs of the IHS, initiates a firmware update for a hardware component via a bus mastered by the remote access controller. Except for transmissions in support of the firmware update, communications on the bus are blocked. While communications on the bus are blocked, a request is detected for transmission of a portion of the firmware update to the hardware component. A time is determined for responding to the request. Prior to the time for responding, a second of the hardware components of the IHS that shares the bus mastered by the remote access controller is polled for thermal data. During the firmware update of the hardware component, closed-loop cooling of the IHS is provided using the thermal data.

Abstract: A distributed and deduplicating file system that stores backup data to object storage is described. A node, in a cluster of nodes, receives a write operation to back up a data file, and identifies backup data associated with the write operation. The node identifies deduplicated data by deduplicating the backup data. The cluster stores the deduplicated data to each of the buffers which corresponds to a node in the cluster. If the node determines that the size of information, which includes the deduplicated data, stored to each of the buffers has accumulated to become greater than or equal to an object threshold, then the node writes the information, which includes the deduplicated data, stored in each of the buffers to an object storage which stores data for the nodes in the cluster.

Abstract: Regulating maintenance background (BG) task activity using instrumented waiting points (WPs) can include: collecting feedback metrics for the WPs, where each WP is instrumented to collect a set of feedback metrics including an average waiting time and a first value denoting a portion of resource requests received at the WP which are from maintenance BG tasks; determining, in accordance with criteria and collected feedback metrics, whether the criteria is true for at least a first WP associated with a set of feedback metrics, wherein the criteria includes determining whether the first WP has an associated average waiting time of the set which exceeds a waiting time threshold, and whether the first WP has a share of maintenance BG requests exceeding a minimum; and responsive to determining that the criteria is true for at least the first WP, performing processing to reduce a current activity level of said maintenance BG tasks.

Abstract: An information handling system peripheral camera analyzes captured visual images to detect a face and analyzes the face to determine an upright orientation. Based upon the face upright orientation, the camera defines a visual image orientation to communicate the visual image from the peripheral camera to an information handling system so that the face is communicated in an upright orientation for use in a video conference, such as with an indication of a landscape or portrait image orientation. In one embodiment, an information handling system can perform the face upright orientation analysis and command a camera orientation to the camera so that visual images of the camera are communicated in alignment with the face upright orientation.

Abstract: Disclosed methods include sending, from a resource manager, network configuration information to each of one or more managed resources. The network configuration information may include an IP address for the resource manager, an IP address for each of the managed resources, and a predetermined timeout value. Network configurations for the resource manager and the one or more managed resources may then be set after which each managed resource may start a timer with the predetermined timeout value. If the resource manager detects successful completion of each of the network configuration operations, the resource manager may send a stop timer command to each of the managed resources. If a timeout occurs, the timeout will inform each of the managed resources that the change in network configuration was not entirely successful. The resource manager and each of the managed resources will then restore their network configurations to their previous configurations.

Abstract: Embodiments of systems and methods to provide a firmware update to multiple storage units configured in a redundant configuration in an Information Handling System (IHS) are disclosed. In an illustrative, non-limiting embodiment, an IHS may include computer-executable instructions to receive a firmware update image associated with multiple devices configured in the IHS, identify two or more of the devices that are configured in a redundant configuration relative to one another, and perform the firmware update sequentially on the two or more devices.

Abstract: In various embodiments, a remote access controller supporting remote management of an Information Handling System (IHS). The remote access controller receives a first firmware image comprising first firmware for a first hardware component of the IHS. A personality of the first firmware is determined and at least a portion of the first firmware is stored to a first region of a persistent storage of the first hardware component, where the first region is designated as storing firmware for adapting the first hardware component to the first personality. In response to a detected reconfiguration of the IHS, the remote access controller generates a notification of the first firmware that is stored by the first hardware component and that is usable to adapt operation of the first hardware component to the first personality.

Abstract: Embodiments of systems and methods to provide a firmware update to multiple storage units configured with different interfaces in an Information Handling System (IHS) are disclosed. In an illustrative, non-limiting embodiment, an IHS may include computer-executable instructions to receive a firmware update image associated with the storage units, and for each of the storage units, identify an update profile based on the type of interface associated with the storage unit, the interface configured to provide communication between the storage unit and the IHS, and perform a firmware update on the storage unit according to the update profile.

Abstract: Embodiments of systems and methods to identify and remediate performance degradation during firmware update in a cluster environment are described. In an illustrative, non-limiting embodiment, an IHS may include computer-executable instructions to receive a request to perform a firmware update on a plurality of computing devices of a computing cluster, obtain an inventory of the computing cluster, and determine a scheduling sequence for updating the computing devices so that the performance of the cluster is optimally maintained. The instructions may then perform the firmware update on each of the computing devices according to the determined scheduling sequence.

Abstract: Embodiments of systems and methods to provide a firmware update to devices configured in a redundant configuration in an Information Handling System (IHS) are disclosed. In an illustrative, non-limiting embodiment, an IHS may include first and second Remote Access Controllers (RACs) that each includes computer-executable instructions to receive a firmware update image associated with the firmware device, and gather data associated with a behavior of the firmware device following the firmware update after the firmware device is updated with the firmware update image. Using the data, the instructions generate a score for the firmware update based at least in part, on the behavior of the IHS following the firmware update.

Abstract: Methods and systems for managing storage of data in a distributed system are disclosed. To manage storage of data in a distributed system, a data processing system may include a network interface controller (NIC). The network interface controller may present emulated storages that may be used for data storage. The emulated storage devices may utilize storage resources of storage devices. The storage devices may be remote to the NIC. To reduce communication bandwidth and/or use of resources of the storage devices, the NIC and/or NICs of other data processing systems may implemented a distributed cache for data stored in the storage devices. The NICs may implement a method of managing the distributed cache to maintain synchronization between the distributed cache and the data stored in the storage devices.

Abstract: A system, method, and computer-readable medium are disclosed for performing a data center connectivity management operation. The connectivity management operation includes: providing a data center asset with a data center asset client module and a host operating system agent; establishing a secure communication channel between the data center asset client module and a connectivity management system, the connectivity management system comprising a service mesh proxy; exchanging information between the data center asset and the connectivity management system via the secure communication channel between the data center asset and the connectivity management system; and, remotely executing a workload on the data center asset via a workload orchestration operation, the service mesh proxy communicating with the host operating system agent when performing the workload orchestration operation.

Abstract: Methods, apparatus, and processor-readable storage media for automatically predicting fail-over of message-oriented middleware systems are provided herein. An example computer-implemented method includes obtaining one or more message-oriented middleware parameter values for at least a portion of multiple message-oriented middleware systems; detecting one or more fail-over-related anomalies associated with at least one of the multiple message-oriented middleware systems by processing at least a portion of the one or more message-oriented middleware parameter values using one or more machine learning techniques; and automatically migrating, based at least in part on the one or more detected fail-over-related anomalies, at least a portion of data associated with the at least one message-oriented middleware system associated with the one or more detected fail-over-related anomalies to at least one of the other of the multiple message-oriented middleware systems.

Abstract: A portable, self-contained data mover container with all required packages for data management, and which can be hosted on a physical host, VM, cloud or appliance, such as a storage array. The data mover container protects multiple workloads such as NAS, native OS filesystem, applications, and so on. An automated process spins up and tears down containers without any impact on the host. If a container fails to run on a host if desired resources are not available, it automatically runs on other hosts for same data set. Minimal user intervention to achieve scale and performance is required, as the system automatically computes the desired number of containers required depending upon dataset and available resources. Containers can be patched and upgraded independently on a host without making any change to the hosting environment.

Abstract: A system, method, and computer-readable medium for performing a data center asset telemetry operation. The data center asset telemetry operation includes: monitoring telemetry information for a plurality of data center assets; determining whether any of the telemetry information includes backlogged telemetry aggregation information; and, performing a telemetry aggregation operation when the telemetry aggregation information is backlogged, the telemetry aggregation operation collecting and aggregating the backlogged telemetry aggregation information.

Abstract: Methods and systems for identifying areas of interest in an image and management of images are disclosed. To manage identification of areas of interest in an image, subject matter expert driven processes may be used to identify the areas of interest. The identified areas of interest may be used to maintain a database usable to guide subsequent use of the images. The database may associate image segments of the images with various landmarks and/or area of interest. The associations may be used to limit the quantity of image segments read from storage during subsequent use of the images.

Abstract: A system and method place an incoming workload within a data center having infrastructure elements (IEs) for execution. Instrumentation data are collected for both individual IEs in the data center, and workload instances executing on each of these IEs. These data are used to train a future load model according to machine learning techniques, especially supervised learning. Future loads, in turn, are used to train a ranking model that ranks IEs according to suitability to execute additional workloads. After receiving an incoming workload, the first model is used to predict, for each IE, the load on its computing resources if the workload were executed on that IE. The resulting predicted loads are then fed into the second model to predict the best ranking of IEs, and the workload is placed on the highest-ranked IE that is available to execute the workload.

Abstract: Techniques for managing disks involve determining performance information of an access pattern of a disk slice based on differences in performance parameters of the access pattern of the disk slice on a plurality of disks. Such techniques further involve determining a score for the disk slice based on the performance information and access frequency information of the disk slice. Such techniques further involve determining a position of the disk slice in the plurality of disks based on the score.
