Abstract: The present invention is a water soluble, pasty lubricant containing a base material comprising a neutral fat and/or a vegetable oil, an alkali metal soap, water and an alkali metal salt of a boric acid. The lubricant has particular advantage for use in non-chip metal forming.
Abstract: Synthetic resins suitable for use in the preparation of baking varnishes are prepared by copolymerizing a vinyl aromatic hydrocarbon, an ester of an alpha, beta-unsaturated monocarboxylic such as an acrylate and an alpha, beta-unsaturated, dicarboxylic acid, such as maleic acid, in solution or dispersion, the carboxyl groups of which being esterified with alcohols, etc. to yield a half-ester copolymer and reacted with alkylene oxides to a low residual acid number after which the solution or dispersion is adjusted with regard to acid number through the addition of phosphoric acid.
Abstract: An improved method of manufacturing shaped objects from cement wherein cement is wetted with an aqueous solution of an acetone-formaldehyde resin, optionally including a water-soluble alcohol, the wet mixture molded to the desired shape and then cured preferably at a temperature within the range of 30.degree. C to 100.degree. C, wherein the bending strength of the finished product is improved by incorporating a metal soap in the composite prior to molding the wet mixture. Also disclosed is an improved composition of matter comprising Portland cement, an acetone-formaldehyde resin and a metal soap, and optionally containing an inorganic aggregate.

Abstract: A biodegradable lubricating grease composition is provided comprising an emulsion of vegetable-derived gel, water and a lubricant from the class of natural oils and fats.
Abstract: Acetone containing less than 0.2 weight percent water is produced in an extractive distillation of acetone containing appreciable quantities of water by utilizing isopropyl alcohol as the extracting agent.
Abstract: Method for depositing a layer or carpet of bitumen in an underground cavern which has a water sump layer in the bottom, and which is used for storing gaseous hydrocarbons, whereby the deposited bitumen carpet minimizes the vaporization of the cavern water into the stored gaseous hydrocarbon.
Abstract: Cold-set lacquers are prepared by emulsifying acrylate monomers with 1 to 10 percent by weight of a cold cross-linkable comonomer in water, polymerizing, and adding to the resultant polymer dispersion, a dispersion of 3 to 15 percent by weight, based on the solids content of the polymer dispersion, of a water-soluble polyamino-amide and, optionally, usual additives. The lacquers give coatings which have good gloss and hardness and are at the same time water-resistant.
Abstract: A process for oligomerizing olefins having 2 to 5 carbon atoms in the molecule employing a novel sulfur containing molybdenum supported catalyst composed of from about 5.0 to 11.0 weight percent molybdenum, 3.0 to 7.0 weight percent sulfur and the remainder support. The catalyst may have present additional members such as platinum, palladium, rhodium, ruthenium, cobalt, nickel, rhenium and tungsten.
Abstract: Novel powder coating compositions consisting of resinous polyhydroxyl compounds as film-forming agents, a cross-linking agent, an activator, and conventional additives are described. In contrast to the known powder coating compositions, the activator rather than cross-linking agent is blocked. The novel cross-linking agents employed are bisazlactones. Activators for use in cross-linking reactions are strong acids which are blocked, i.e they are employed in the form of their thermolabile esters or amine salts. The powder coating compositions of this invention are storable and they can be baked at predetermined temperatures to provide high gloss and elastic coatings.

Abstract: A process for oligomerizing unsaturated hydrocarbons having 2 to 5 carbon atoms in the molecule employing a novel molybdenum-containing carrier catalyst.
Abstract: Molding compositions or masses comprising sand and a two-component binder system are prepared. These two-component binders consist essentially of 1) polyisocyanate and 2) a low molecular weight polymethylol produced by the controlled condensation of narrow mole ratios of acetone and formaldehyde under alkaline reaction conditions followed by acidification and removal of sufficient water to produce a minimum solid content of at least 95%. These molding compositions cure so fast that they may be taken off the mold five minutes after having been cured with an amine curing agent, and reach a substantial bending strength within minutes of curing compared to prior art compositions which achieve comparable bending strength only after a period of as long as one hour.

Abstract: Apparatus and method determines the time shift and total phase difference between two alternating current signals. A value .psi. (f) corresponding to the phase relationship between the two signals is determined for each frequency f contained in the two signals. A slope A and an ordinate section B of the best fitting straight line g(f)=Af + B through the totality of the values .psi. (f) so obtained is determined. The phase shift .psi..sub.o =B modulo (2.pi.) is determined from the ordinate section B and the time shift .tau. = A/2.pi. from the slope A.
