  • Patent number: 4598742
Abstract: Method and apparatus for monitoring liquid stock in a storage tank. A prism connected by optical fibers is located at a fixed position in a tank, the volume of liquid at the fixed position being determined. A computer receives data relating to the liquid dispensed, and the liquid received, and calculates an amount of liquid in the tank at the moment the liquid passes the fixed prism. The calculated data is compared to the exact volume data received from the prism.

  • Patent number: 4575130
Abstract: A coupling apparatus specifically designed for an elbow of a fluid distribution system has a pair of rollers which are rotatable about first rotary axes which are movable with respect to the elbow and second rotary axes which move the first rotary axes in an arcuate path. The rollers selectively engage a locking groove of a second pipe section. The locking groove has arcuate portions with a radius equal to that of the rollers. The rollers are generally moved in unison but are permitted a small range of independent movement to insure locking of both rollers in the locking groove in the event of slight misalignments due to manufacturing tolerances.

  • Patent number: 4566561
Abstract: An elevator system has a selector mechanism driven by a cable loop attached to the elevator car. The opposite cable ends are wound on a take-up drum, in opposite rotational directions, in sequential rows across the drum, such that the cable leads travel back and forth across the drum as the drum rotates. A selector cable guide includes a frame pivotable about an axis generally perpendicular to the drum axis. The frame is disposed about the drum, and has a pair of pulleys mounted adjacent to the pivot axis, and a second pair of pulleys mounted to the frame on the opposite side of the drum. Each cable portion is guided about one of the first pulleys, thereafter about one of the second pulleys, and is thereafter wrapped onto the drum. The second pulleys swing laterally to follow the position of the cable leads as they travel across the drum, whereas the first pulleys remain relatively stationary for directing the cable portions up and down the elevator shaft from a relatively constant position.

  • Patent number: 4557302
Abstract: A fluid dispensing nozzle has a retainer secured onto its peripheral surface of the nozzle's discharge spout. This retainer extends radially outward from the spout and is designed to engage a radially inwardly extending lip about a fill tank opening to secure the spout in the fill tank opening when the nozzle is operated in an automatic mode. The retainer is secured onto the spout by an annular groove in the spout and a retainer ring fitted in the groove. The retainer is abutted against the retainer ring and means are provided to prevent axial movement of the retainer relative to the spout once the retainer is so abutted.

  • Patent number: 4554432
Abstract: A gas metal arc welding gun includes a power cable in which the power conductors are asymmetrically distributed in a crescent between a gas conduit and a sheath in order to improve flexibility of the power cable. The welding gun includes a head assembly which includes a head that defines an internal annular ridge between a contact tip and a free end of an electrode liner. This annular ridge serves as a stop for the contact tip, as a centering guide for the electrode liner, and as a shield to protect the electrode from welding spatter. The welding gun includes a two-piece handle which includes a tongue and aperture guide at one end, and an interlocking flange guide at the other end. The two guides restrict movement between the two housing parts to axial movement, and a snap ring locks the two housing parts in a desired assembled position.

  • Patent number: 4497350
Abstract: Flow through a vapor recovery nozzle is stopped when the liquid in a tank being filled reaches a predetermined level to cause a first diaphragm, which forms a wall of a first chamber, to move a latch release mechanism against the force of a single spring. Flow through the nozzle also is stopped when pressure in the tank being filled exceeds a predetermined pressure through movement of a second diaphragm, which is disposed in a plane substantially perpendicular to the plane of the first diaphragm and forms a wall of a second chamber connected by two separate passages to a vapor return passage communicating the tank with vapor recovery equipment, to cause movement of the latch release mechanism in the same direction and against the force of the same spring. The first diaphragm is prevented from moving in response to the pressure in the tank increasing. The exterior of each of the first and second diaphragms is exposed to ambient pressure.

  • Patent number: 4482128
Abstract: A valve formed of a body, adapted to be clamped between flanges in a pipeline, having a flow passageway therethrough defining an annular valve seat, a valve disc assembly positioned in the flow passageway and movable between a closed and an open position, the disc having a peripheral sealing surface which engages the valve seat when the valve is closed and is turned 90 degrees so that its plane is parallel to the axis of the flow passageway, when it is open. A valve stem is provided and means for axially moving the valve stem through two coaxial valve stem openings in the body. Two cam systems are provided on the valve stem. The first serves to move the valve towards or away from the valve seat as the stem moves axially. The second serves to turn the valve stem through an angle of 90 degrees due to further axial motion of the stem. The valve disc assembly is supported on the valve stem such that it can be moved in a direction perpendicular to the axis of the stem, but cannot rotate with respect to the stem.

  • Patent number: 4469017
Abstract: A static leak seal assembly for use in a conventional compressor for preventing high pressure gas leakage from occurring through the spaces between a movable piston rod and a frame of the machine when the rod is motionless is disclosed. A piston is mounted on the rod for axial movement between retracted and extended positions. A follower ring is disposed around the rod and is likewise movable in an axial direction along the rod between retracted and extended positions in response to corresponding movement of the piston. When moved to its extended position by the piston, the follower ring engages a compressible, resilient collar to compress a neck of the collar inwardly against the rod to effect a substantially fluid tight seal therearound. The ring is separate and distinct from the piston to permit the former to adjust in radial disposition about the rod to uniformly compress the collar neck against the rod around the entire periphery of the latter.
