  • Patent number: 4365725
Abstract: A market basket is provided with a U-shaped handle having outwardly projecting locking tabs. The locking tabs, each comprised of a support bar and a locking bar, are slidably and rotatably received in vertical slots in the side walls of the basket. With the locking tab at the bottom of the side wall slots, the handle is freely rotatable. When the handle is lifted upwardly while in the vertical position, each of the locking bar enters into and engages a second vertical slot provided by a locking block to prevent the handle from rotating, the locking block being located on a flange which depends downwardly from an outwardly extending lateral rim on the upper edge of the basket. In an alternate embodiment, the support bar has cross arms forming a cruciform cross sectional shape which engage the correspondingly shaped top of the sidewall slot providing three support points and additional handle locking action.

  • Patent number: 4363411
Abstract: A hammerhead type of crane has a structural tower with opposed structural cantilevers extending horizontally therefrom and there is a horizontal track along which a load carrying trolley may move through the tower between limits near the outer ends of the cantilevers and a second horizontal track along which a counterweight may travel at the same speed and distance but in the opposite direction and with the load trolley and counterweight passing each other as they move through the tower from one cantilever to the other. The counterweight is moved by means of a cable that has its opposite ends attached to the counterweight and which between its ends is wound about a reversible drum arranged to selectively move the counterweight in one direction or the other.

Abstract: There is disclosed a train positioner for sequentially advancing a string of railroad cars to a rotary car dumper in a step-by-step and a car-by-car sequence. Each of the cars has rotatable couplings permitting the rotation of each car about a longitudinal axis. The rotary car dumper is adapted to invert a railroad car about that axis. Two car-pushing members are provided which are adapted to sequentially engage a car and advance the car toward the dumper. A drive arrangement is provided which is adapted to drive at least one of the pushing members forwardly toward the dumper a distance corresponding to about the length of a car while that pushing member is engaged with a car while retracting at least one other member rearwardly away from the dumper a distance corresponding to about the length of the car while being disengaged from a car.

  • Patent number: 4351431
Abstract: The load carrying upper reach of a belt conveyor particularly useful for transporting large pieces of rock and other heavy bulk material dispenses with the usual idle troughing rollers and is supported by an endless succession of spaced transverse flexible cross members or hammocks each of which has a trolley at each end riding on endless rails extending along each side of the belt and around the rollers at the head and discharge ends of the belt conveyor. Along the return strand of the conveyor belt the hammocks are above the belt but rest on it. The side-to-side distance between rails is less than the width of the conveyor belt so that the weighed belt cradles itself in the hammocks. However, at the head end of the conveyor there is a decending traveling belt ramp and at the discharge end an upwardly sloping belt ramp to flatten the hammocks and the belt for passage around the head and tail pulleys respectively. In these areas, the rails spread apart to take up the slack in the hammocks.

  • Patent number: 4305738
Abstract: Micronized coal is removed from coal-bearing steam by spraying stabilized petroleum oil into the steam and directing the resultant stream at a separation surface on which a coal-oil slurry is deposited and collected. Apparatus includes conduits which direct the resultant stream downward into a housing and normal to a surface on which the slurry is deposited by impact forces. In additional apparatus disclosed, the resultant stream is directed from a horizontal conduit circumferentially along the interior wall of a horizontally disposed cylindrical chamber at the top of the chamber and the coal-oil slurry deposited on the wall by centrifugal force is collected in a trough situated below a longitudinal slot at the bottom of the chamber. In both types of apparatus, after separation of the slurry the velocity of the steam is reduced to settle out remaining oil droplets and is then discharged to the atmosphere.

  • Patent number: 4273312
Abstract: A method of controlling a process off-gas system by generating a model of the input to the system as a function of the gas generating inputs to the process vessel served by the off-gas system and feeding forward this flow representation as the set point for a feedback flow control loop for the downstream off-gas system fans. The feed forward signal is trimmed by a process off-gas pressure feedback loop which when applied to a TBRC off-gas system assures a minimum flow of leakage air to prevent puffing. The flow control feedback loop employs a mass spectrometer to provide on line computation of the true off-gas flow at the fans. Since the input model can be generated as a simple linear function of the SCFM of the gas generating inputs to the process, the flow control loop is operated on the same basis although it can also be operated on the basis of mass flow.

  • Patent number: 4265579
Abstract: A bulk material unloader in which a clamshell bucket is suspended from a boom which is luffed from a position over the material to be unloaded through the vertical to a position over a bulk material receiving hopper. The hoists and/or the anchors for the bucket hold and close ropes are mounted on the unloader base on the opposite side of the hopper from the boom pivot such that the suspended length of the hold and close ropes is increased as the boom is luffed through the vertical and the bucket is thereby lowered into the hopper with the hoists remaining inactive until the bucket is in position to be opened and discharged with minimum dusting effect.
