  • Patent number: 4154555
Abstract: A machine tool having a boring bar carrying cutting tools and mounted for rotative adjustment on a rotary driven spindle with its axis offset from the axis of the spindle. An additional cutting tool is mounted for radial adjustment on the spindle individually of the boring bar. The tools on the boring bar and the cutting tool on the spindle are adjusted radially by means of a helically splined nut engaged with a similarly splined shaft which is rotated relative to the spindle in response to axial displacement of the shaft.

  • Patent number: 4082179
Abstract: A workpiece elevator which includes an upright housing in which is arranged a vertically-extending endless conveyor chain having workpiece supports mounted thereon at regularly spaced intervals. The upwardly extending run of the chain is located along the outer face of the front wall of the housing. A guide rail assembly for ascending workpieces carried by the supports on the conveyor chain is constructed so that it can be mounted on or removed from the front wall of the elevator housing as an integral unit.

  • Patent number: 4068957
Abstract: A coupling between adjacent ends of transfer bar sections which includes a screw having threads of opposite hand at opposite ends thereof engaged with threaded counterbores in the ends of the two transfer bar sections. A spacer ground precisely to a desired length is clamped between the ends of the bar sections when the screw is tightened. The spacer and screw have radially aligned holes therein to accommodate a tool for tightening the screw. The holes are dimensioned relative to the tool so that the screw can be tightened a final increment without rotating the spacer.

  • Patent number: 4067564
Abstract: A work supporting plunger and a control plunger are perpendicularly arranged for axial sliding movement in a work support body. The inner end of the work support plunger engages an axially inclined face on the control plunger so that axial movement of the control plunger results in movement of the work support plunger to and from supporting engagement with a workpiece. A collet in the work support body concentric with the control plunger is adapted to lock the control plunger against movement. The collet is in turn surrounded by a collet locking sleeve movable axially to lock and release the collet.

  • Patent number: 4027759
Abstract: A gravity conveyor system wherein headed workpieces are transported individually along a downwardly inclined chuting structure by supporting the workpieces on work carriers of the roller type. The workpieces are supported on arms journalled in and extending laterally from the work carrier rollers. A loading and unloading station are disclosed in which the power necessary for loading the workpieces onto the carriers and removing them from the carriers is supplied solely by the gravitational force acting on the carriers.

  • Patent number: 4026409
Abstract: A storage and conveying unit having two helically shaped guideways on which workpieces are adapted to be supported in a position inclined slightly to the vertical. One of the guideways is mounted on an outer cylindrical support and the other guideway is mounted on an inner cylindrical support having a diameter slightly less than the diameter of the outer cylindrical support. The inner cylindrical support is reciprocated vertically through a short stroke to advance the workpieces in the direction of their inclination. The two cylindrical supports are provided with vertical guides and guide rollers engaging the guides for preventing relative circumferential movement between the two supports.

  • Patent number: 4010841
Abstract: A conveyor mechanism for workpieces having an enlarged head and a depending stem of smaller section comprising a plurality of forked carriers movable along a predetermined path of travel. The carriers have arms extending transversely of their path of travel. The arm on the trailing side of the carrier being longer than the arm on the leading side of the carrier so that the longer arm is adapted to deflect workpieces from a loading station onto the carrier and deflect a workpiece off the carrier at a conveyor unloading station.

  • Patent number: 3998444
Abstract: A pair of opposed plungers slideably arranged in a bore on a work-holding fixture have their confronting end faces inclined to the axis thereof in spaced apart relation. A key is disposed between the confronting ends of the plungers. The fixture is designed so that when a workpiece is placed thereon it depresses one of the plungers. Thereafter the other plunger is moved toward the key to shift the key laterally into engagement with the inclined end face of the depressed plunger. The end face of the latter is inclined at a wedge locking angle. Additional means having a wedge locking angle are provided to prevent movement of the second plunger in a direction away from the key.

  • Patent number: 3991590
Abstract: A safety overload clutch wherein the driving and driven members are retained in driving relation by a primary roller on one of the members urged radially into a groove on the other member by an elastic flexure ring loaded by one or more secondary rollers on the one member positioned substantially diametrically opposite the primary roller. When the load on the driven member exceeds a predetermined value, the primary roller rolls out of its groove causing additional deflection of the flexure ring.

  • Patent number: 3983770
Abstract: A lathe type machine for turning pistons, in which the cutting tool is caused to follow the surface contour of the cam which corresponds in shape to the desired contour of the piston to be machined. The cutting tool and a cam follower are mounted in spaced relation on an arm supported on a tool slide by means of an eccentric pivot pin, which when rotated in opposite directions shifts the tool toward and away from the axis of the work supporting spindle. Means are provided for automatically rotating the eccentric pivot pin through an arc of fixed angular extent in one direction when the tool slide reaches one end of its stroke and in the opposite direction through the same arcuate extent when the tool slide reaches the other end of its stroke. Means are also provided for rotating the eccentric pin slightly when desired to effect a change in size without affecting the extent of arcuate movement of the pin at opposite ends of the stroke of the tool slide.

  • Patent number: 3968869
Abstract: A work piece transfer mechanism having a plurality of successive stations each provided with a fixture for locating and clamping a pallet in position for performing a machining operation on the work piece supported by the pallet. The locating and clamping means of each fixture are actuated by reciprocating bars. Preloaded compression springs are interposed between the bars and the locating and clamping means of each fixture for applying a relatively high force to the clamping members in response to a short stroke of the bars.

  • Patent number: 3938649
Abstract: A workpiece elevator is disclosed having a series of workpiece carriers thereon which move in an endless vertical path and from which workpieces are discharged by gravity. On each carrier there is mounted a latch mechanism which selectively blocks or opens the outlet end of each carrier. The elevator includes a plurality of outlet chutes for receiving workpieces from the carriers. Members are mounted on a stationary part of the elevator for selectively actuating the latch mechanism as the outlet of each carrier aligns with an outlet chute in accordance with the workpiece requirements of the outlet chute.
