  • Patent number: 7885076
Abstract: An electronic device such as an AC/DC power adapter includes a conductive heat dissipation system. The device contains heat generating components and is powered via power supply leads by an external power supply circuit. The device further contains a thermally conductive mass that is thermally coupled to both the heat generating components and to the power supply leads. When the power supply leads are coupled to receive electricity from the external power supply circuit, heat generated by the device is thermally conducted into the external power supply circuit via the power supply leads.

  • Patent number: 7873269
Abstract: A novel micro camera module that is manually adjustable between a close-up mode and an infinite mode includes a lens assembly adjustably mounted within a sleeve that is adjustably mounted into a housing. In a particular embodiment the sleeve includes a channel (cam groove) that is engaged by a plurality of pins fixed to the housing. Further, a biasing member is disposed between the sleeve and the housing such that an upward force will enable the pins to firmly engage the lower portion of the channel. In a more particular embodiment, the channel defines two detents that secure the sleeve into predetermined positions with respect to the housing. In an even more particular embodiment, the channel is sloped such that upon rotation of the sleeve, the distance between the lens assembly and an image capture device is changed. In another particular embodiment, the camera module includes an electrical mode detecting switch that is indicative of the position of the camera module.

  • Patent number: 7869830
Abstract: Generally, an antenna module includes a plurality of monopole antenna elements (e.g., 3 to 4 antenna elements) that can be coupled together by one or more switches to provide for a tunable, wideband antenna module. For example, the switches may change the overall length of the antenna such that the frequency range of the antenna is changed. The frequency response may also be controlled by a low voltage micro sized varicap, or a varactor diode, and instantiated as a tuned, resonant matching filter network residing with the antenna module. Additionally, switches may be used to “switch in” and “switch out” capacitive elements to adjust the bandwidth of the antenna. The resonant matching filter network may then be used for fine tuning the frequency of that bandwidth.

  • Patent number: 7830624
Abstract: A method for assembling lens modules using laser bonding of external ramped surfaces. The method includes providing a lens housing with a sidewall with ramped surfaces and providing a lens barrel with external ramped surfaces. The lens barrel is positioned in contact with the lens housing such that the ramped surfaces of the lens barrel mate with the ramped surfaces of the lens housing. The lens barrel is rotated to focus a lens on an image sensor. With a laser, the method includes forming at least two bonds at an interface between the lens barrel and the lens housing such as proximate to the mating ramped surfaces. The bonds are located at equidistant points about the periphery of the lens module. The bonds may be circular or may be elliptical such as with a width along the interface that is at least twice the height of the bond.

  • Patent number: 7831401
Abstract: Generally, a DC/DC converter and its associated devices and processes are presented herein. The DC/DC converter may be a switched mode converter that includes a plurality of switching devices that couple between the first and second power supply rails. A transformer is coupled to the switching devices such that the switching devices exchange electrical energy through the transformer. A rectifier is coupled to the transformer to rectify the waveform from the transformer into a substantially DC output. The DC/DC converter also includes clamp diodes to relieve voltage stress on rectifier diodes. Resistors may be coupled in series with the clamp diodes to reduce a reset time of the DC/DC converter and thereby prevent catastrophic failure of the power supply during load transients. Additionally, the DC/DC converter may be configured with a power outage detection device that monitors gate drive signals of the converter.

  • Patent number: 7826211
Abstract: A computer card retention device (60) is disclosed. One or more latching sections (88) are mounted on and movable relative to a computer card retainer (62). Each latching section (88) may be moved between latched and unlatched positions. Moving a latching section (88) to its unlatched position, and relative to the computer card retainer (62), allows the computer card retainer (62) to be moved from a card-restraining position to a card-access position. In one embodiment, each latching section (88) moves relative to the computer card retainer (62) along an axial path that is collinear or parallel with an axis (69) about which computer card retainer (62) may move between its card-restraining and card-access positions.

  • Patent number: 7782629
Abstract: A pre-drilled hole, providing a passageway between an upper and a lower surface of a printed circuit board layer, receives a passive component, for example a resistor or a capacitor. In one embodiment the component is cylindrical, with an electrically conductive contact point at each end. The hole diameter is approximately the same as the diameter of the cylindrical component. The hole is similar to a via in a printed circuit board, except that the hole is not plated through (such would cause an electrical short). Electrically conductive lines are provided to the openings of the hole on the upper and the lower surfaces of the PCB. The area of the exposed end of the cylindrical component and the termination of the conducting line is less than the area of a surface mounted component equivalent to the cylindrical component.

  • Patent number: 7764515
Abstract: A power converter includes a transformer, a primary switch, an auxiliary switch, first and second resonance capacitors, and a secondary side rectification means. A switch mode power supply is formed to use reflected voltage and parasitic capacitance as an energy source for a transformer resonance. The auxiliary switch effectively exchanges energy between the primary inductance of the transformer and the first and second resonant capacitors. The auxiliary switch effectively switches the transformer resonance between two distinct frequencies. In one embodiment of the invention, the power converter can be, but is not limited to, a flyback converter and further includes a comparator and a driver. The comparator is for detecting the voltage across the second resonance capacitor and the driver is configured to drive the auxiliary switch based on the output state of the comparator. The resonant nature of the converter provides zero voltage (ZVS) for the primary switch as well as for the auxiliary switch.
