  • Patent number: 4404785
Abstract: A partition assembly includes post cover plates for masking the lower portion of vertical, round posts disposed intermediate a plurality of elevated panels. The upper section of each post cover plate includes an arcuate segment having a curvature substantially mating that of the vertical post cylindrical walls while an attached lower section on the post cover plate is provided with an outer wall having lateral edges substantially aligned with the plane of the outer faces of the adjacent panel or panels. The post cover plates are installed with the lower sections disposed below the plane of the panel bottoms and are retained in position by the engagement of grooves adjacent the lower section lateral edges and the juxtaposed end edges of panel cover plates mounted beneath adjacent panels.

  • Patent number: 4258963
Abstract: An improved desk includes a top supported by opposite end assemblies and in turn supporting a juxtaposed end of an extension top having an end assembly at its opposite free end. The juxtaposed end of the extension top is attached to the desk top by a mounting assembly allowing of both vertical as well as horizontal displacement of the extension thereabout. The desk and extension end assemblies each are provided with a lowermost vertically adjustable leg unit permitting selective, independent variation of the height of the desk and extension tops both with respect to the underlying floor and with respect to one another. Manipulation of the leg unit adjustment is facilitated by the inclusion of a snap-out panel manually removable from each end assembly.

  • Patent number: 4255610
Abstract: A wiring system for a partition assembly comprises a plurality of horizontally extending elongated wiring channels readily attachable to the outer face of adjacently disposed panels and supporting posts by means of one or more removable hanger assemblies juxtaposed each post. Each hanger assembly including at least one terminal section insertable in the end of an adjacent panel wiring channel and a medial section serving to support a post wiring channel. One or more wiring compartments within all of the wiring channels are longitudinally aligned with one another to provide continuous electrical raceways or compartments from one end of the assembly to the other and an interlocking effect is achieved between adjacent wiring channels by providing mitered end edges on the channels.

  • Patent number: 4240685
Abstract: A file arrangement includes a cabinet housing, a plurality of vertically stacked file elements with an interlock assembly carried by one cabinet lateral wall precluding the opening of more than one element at a time as the first opened drawer vertically displaces a roller on the assembly to block any displacement of similar rollers adjacent the remaining file elements. A separate lock bar assembly adjacent the opposite cabinet lateral wall includes a plurality of lock dogs engageable with the front of the file elements and vertically shiftable upon actuation of a lock mechanism. Operation of the lock mechanism and its associated lock bar assembly also actuates a transfer rod joining both assemblies to simultaneously and equally displace the interlock assembly and a plurality of lock dogs thereon to lock both sides of all file elements within the cabinet.

  • Patent number: 4239932
Abstract: A partition wiring system includes panels supported by either square or round posts and having electrical raceways beneath the panels with each containing a harness assembly provided with male and female connectors at opposite ends. Series of harness assemblies are joined to one another by mating male and female contacts to deliver current to electrical outlets contained in any one or all of the posts or alternatively, any one or all of the electrical raceways. Variably positionable contact elements on the male and female connectors allow the union of adjacent connectors whether the respective panels are disposed in a straight line or at right angles to one another in a system employing square posts and in a system utilizing round posts, additionally, all intermediate angles. The open bottom of each electrical raceway may be enclosed by either a slidable cover or a disparate telephone wiring raceway.

  • Patent number: 4229917
Abstract: A strut support assembly for a partition system includes a retainer assembly projecting from beneath an upright and provided with a fastener receiving groove intermediate an enlarged medial section of the retainer assembly and the bottom of the upright. A removable strut assembly includes an arcuate attachment surface mating with the configuration of the upright exterior and a plurality of vertically spaced-apart horizontal cut-outs through the arcuate surface for the selective insertion of a U-bolt therethrough to captively engage the fastener receiving groove and rigidly attach the strut assembly relative the upright. The groove is of sufficient vertical extent to accommodate a second U-bolt for securing an additional oppositely disposed strut assembly to the same upright and the retainer assembly medial section includes an upwardly facing circular recess serving to receive and retain attachment structure carried by one or more panels of the partition system.

  • Patent number: 4197685
Abstract: A strut assembly for a partition system includes an angular strut having a slotted upright normally captively disposed within the interior of a housing by lock structure. Tool access to the lock structure from without the housing allows of selective attachment and removal of the assembly from a position adjacent a post of the partition system as well as vertical adjustment of the strut while the housing remains stationary relative the post. A single strut assembly may alternately be attached to a rectangular or round post. In the former instance the housing and lock structure directly engage the post while in the latter case an intermediate hanger member serves as a stationary base for the attachment of the housing and the locking of the selectively positioned strut.

  • Patent number: 4161305
Abstract: A control mechanism for a tilt seat chair includes a control body supported in a relatively stationary position by a fixedly attached vertical post member. A torsion unit comprising a pair of resiliently urged concentric sleeves extends through opposed sidewalls of the control body forwardly of the post member and includes a forwardly extending tension lever having adjusting means constantly bearing against a case hardened transverse plate carried by the control body. A chair seat spider assembly pivotedly supported solely by the innermost sleeve of the torsion unit normally abuts, in its at-rest-position, nonmetallic forward stop means carried by the control body and is limited in rearward tilting displacement by abutment of the same spider assembly with rear stop ramps comprising integral portions of the control body disposed rearwardly of the vertical post member.

  • Patent number: 4084699
Abstract: A file device includes a shelf member containing a plurality of dividers each removably attached to the shelf member in a selective longitudinal position by means allowing of pivotal displacement about its lower edge. A compressible pad upon the shelf floor constantly biases against the attached divider lower edges to form a tight seal therewith while each divider is provided with lateral tabs overlying the shelf member side walls and having a specified height selected to limit the degree of pivotal displacement of that divider. Additionally, removable label holders for the divider tabs form a close mating fit therewith. Improved support means for the shelf member includes a stand cooperating with the shelf side walls or hanger brackets engageable with the shelf and walls, both serving to retain the shelf member at a fixed transverse inclination.
