    Abstract: A method and apparatus for photon counting are disclosed. In an implementation, the present disclosure provides a dynamic-range photon-counting spectrometric sensor for low signal detection embedded in large parasitic background light signal. Rather than using a known forward illuminated imager approach of counting photons directly, embodiments of the present disclosure use a backward illuminated imager approach to generate a burst of electrons based on the photons, and perform photon detection by counting the generated burst of electrons using the plurality of CMOS chip pixels. An electronic circuit, in communication with the CMOS chip pixels, includes a fast clock enabling discrimination between electrons in time. The electronic circuit can be built on the face of a semiconductor wafer on which the CMOS chip pixels are provided.

    Abstract: Systems and methods for use in training crewmembers in the cargo compartment in detecting and identifying visual cues related to potential threats to aircraft and to ground based search and rescue circumstances. A visual display displays a scene generated by a visual scene generator apparatus. A vision limiting device, such as an actual door from an aircraft, equipped with a window is placed between the trainee and the visual display and the trainee can only see a limited amount of the visual display through the door's window. The limited view of the scene afforded the trainee will force the trainee to move around at various angles to see more of the scene and will also provide a frame of reference for making spatiotemporal judgments regarding the relationships between the trainee, the trainee's aircraft, and objects external to the aircraft.

    Abstract: A system for determining the detectability of a fleet of vehicles by a listener at a target site. The system receives as input at least the number of vehicles, a selection of a noise signature for each vehicle, and a distance to the target. The system may then estimate noise pressure level for the fleet along the estimated distance from the given location to the target site based on the noise signature associated with each vehicle and display a graph showing the noise pressure level vs. distance from the given location to the target site. In an embodiment, the system may estimate the background noise level at the target site and subtract this from the noise pressure level of the fleet at the target site to determine an expected noise level above background noise at the target site.

The head protection system uses a rigid shell worn on the user's head and the rigid shell has a power/data bus located inside a preconfigured channel inside a halo housing attached to the shell. Removable protection accessories are also provided and attachable to the shell using an attachment subsystem located on the inside edge of the shell. The attachment subsystem has a number of recesses which mate with tabs on the removable protection accessories. Once attached to the shell, the removable protection accessories are lockable into place using a suitable locking mechanism.     Abstract: The present invention provides a system and method for relative localization that provides an orientation signal and a position signal between at least two vehicles. The present invention also provides for vehicle formation, such that there is a leading vehicle and a follower vehicle that maintain a specific formation relative to one another. The orientation, relative position and identity signals are utilized to control that formation. Each vehicle has at least three ultrasonic sensors, at least one ultrasonic source and an optional pair of FM receiver/transmitter. By installing several acoustic sensors whose relative position are known and by measuring the difference in the time of arrival of the same signal from the various sensors on the same vehicle, the difference in time can be converted into a difference of distance and then into relative position of the sensors from the source based on the Time Difference of Arrival (TDOA).

By sampling the incoming signal at different times at different spatial locations on the arbitrary trajectory, the system acts as a synthetic antenna array. The different samplings of the incoming signal at different times and positions provide signal diversity gain as well as different readings which can be used to detect an incoming signal. The invention is applicable to detecting a wireless communications signal or a GNSS signal under various conditions. The system may include at least one sensor which can provide data for use in calculating data related to the arbitrary trajectory.

The invention discloses a single dose administration of two types of recombinant viral vectors: one expressing interferon and another expressing the structural proteins of alphaviruses or a single dose administration of the recombinant viral vector co-expressing both interferon and the structural proteins of alphaviruses. This invention can be used to prevent humans from alphavirus-induced encephalitides in the event of a bioterrorism attack or biowarfare in which alphaviruses such as Venezuelan (VEEV), eastern (EEEV) and western (WEEV) equine encephalitis viruses are deliberately released to humans, a natural outbreak of alphaviruses, and an accidental exposure to alphaviruses in laboratory.

    Abstract: Low molecular weight serum components (less than 10,000 m.w.), in vaccinated animals and a human subject who has been exposed to a threat agent inadvertently, bound to purified O-polysaccharide (OPS, a polymer of formamido-mannose) and a candidate of a threat agent, such as Brucella suis 145 vaccine is disclosed. These components formed a loose reversible precipitin with OPS in a high-salt borate-buffered agarose gel and bound to the candidate vaccine as observed by capillary electrophoresis. By using modified capillary electrophoresis, the invention also discloses the presence of two larger serum components, one similar in size to that of serum albumin and one resembles that of mannan-binding lectin, that bound to the vaccine. An indirect method for identifying vaccination is the presence of antibodies against Brucella-OPS-antibodies. ELISA, capillary electrophoresis and animal challenge studies showed that as high as 30% of the control animals did not require vaccination.
