    Abstract: A shunt system for implantation in the body which can be used for transferring cerebrospinal fluid is disclosed. The shunt system comprises a body having an upper and lower surface and a distal and proximal end. The body includes a central cavity opening through the upper surface at a first and second port. A proximal fluid flow channel extends through the proximal end of the body and opens at a third port on the upper surface. A distal fluid flow channel extends through the distal end of the body and opens at a fourth port on the upper surface. A resilient dome comprised of a self-sealing material is attached to and extends over the upper surface of the body. A first portion of the resilient dome extends over the first and third ports on the upper surface defining a first chamber. The first portion of the resilient dome cooperates upon flexing with the third port to occlude the third port.

    Abstract: An optical section of an intraocular lens has a pair of spaced apart threaded recesses which are threadingly locked to threaded shank sections of an iris retention loop. The shank sections are integrally joined to such loop so each shank section acts as an anchor preventing a screwing movement of the other shank relative to the optical section. A method is described of expanding a shank section of a lens retention member in situ within a threaded or other undercut recess of an optical section of an intraocular lens.

    Abstract: An intraocular lens with an iris retention loop that is attached to an optical section of the lens by a pair of shank sections. Each shank section has a noncircular cross sectional area to provide a more flattened contact surface for engaging an inner edge of the iris. Such structure reduces cutting of the iris when the iris is stretched over these shank sections to retain the lens in the eye.

    Abstract: An expansion device for temporary implantation beneath the skin and subcutaneous layer, there to be enlarged whereby to increase the surface area of tissue which overlays it, to provide a flap for use in plastic and reconstructive surgery. The device comprises an envelope with a substantially non-extensible base and a cover. Together the base and cover form an envelope. The cover is flexible, and when empty it is slack. The volume of the envelope is adjustably variable as a function of the amount of fluid it contains. Means is provided for admitting fluid to the envelope without puncturing the base or the cover.

    Abstract: A compression implant to resist the flow of urine through the urethra comprising a cap, an external planar pressure face on the cap, a base, an external bearing face on the base, and a peripheral wall continuously interconnecting the cap and the base. A peripheral fold in the peripheral wall enables the face to move toward and away from the base by changing the shape of the fold without elastic stretching of the material which forms the wall. The cap, base and peripheral wall together define an internal cavity which can be filled with an adjustably variable amount of fluid whereby to adjust the firmness of the capsule and thereby to adjust the force which it exerts against the urethra after implantation.
