  • Patent number: 10183134
Abstract: An MIE apparatus has a blower, a valve system, and a mask hose connector. The blower is connected to the valve system which is connected to the hose connector. During insufflation, the valve system connects exhaust of the blower to the hose connector to cause positive pressure at the hose connector. During exsufflation, the valve system connects the blower intake to the hose connector to cause negative pressure at the hose connector. The apparatus has an automatic mode in which switching between insufflation and exsufflation is based on one or more preset time intervals and a manual mode in which switching between insufflation and exsufflation is based on a manual input from a user.

  • Patent number: 9744097
Abstract: A wearable thorax percussion device for dislodging mucous buildup in the airways of a human patient, the device comprising a garment fitting over the thorax, a rigid element attached to the external surface of the garment, an electromechanical actuator retained by the rigid element to intermittently percuss the thorax, and an electronic controller for generating and modulating an electrical signal to energize the actuator. The rigid element may be adjustably positioned on the garment to accommodate thoraxes of different dimensions. The actuator may be compressible between the rigid element and the thorax to better maintain contact with the thorax.

  • Patent number: 9272115
Abstract: A respiratory therapy device comprises a pneumatic control unit connectable to a source of medical grade oxygen for supplying oxygen to a first control unit outlet port at a first set of conditions and to a second control unit outlet port at a second set of conditions. First and second transfer conduits are in fluid communication with the first and second outlet ports. Each transfer conduit defines at least part of a flowpath to destination. Each flowpath includes a filter. A related filtration module comprises a filter housing defining two or more filter compartments. The housing has an input side with a gas inlet in fluid communication with each of the filter compartments and a gas outlet in fluid communication with each of the filter compartments. A filter element resides in each of the compartments intermediate the gas inlet to the compartment and the gas outlet from the compartment.

  • Patent number: 8985112
Abstract: An MIE apparatus has a blower, a direction valve, an oscillator, and a mask hose connector. The blower is connected to the direction valve, which is connected to the oscillator, which is connected to the hose connector. During insufflation, a direction valve connects exhaust of a blower to an oscillator, causing positive pressure at the hose connector. During exsufflation, the direction valve connects the blower intake to the oscillator, causing negative pressure at the hose connector. The oscillator is a butterfly valve with a 360° rotating disc. During insufflation, the disc is fixed to steadily modulate the airflow. During exsufflation, the oscillator is inactive or in flutter mode. When inactive, the disc is fixed to allow maximum air flow. In flutter mode, the disc continuously rotates so that the air flow rapidly alternates between maximum and minimum.

  • Patent number: 8844530
Abstract: A medical device and method for combination lung ventilation and mucus clearance of a patient is disclosed. The medical device may be configured to provide lung ventilation with intermittent, on-demand mucus clearance, freeing the patient's mouth for activities of daily living such as when the patient is awake; and, in another configuration, the device can provide lung ventilation with automated mucus clearance, such as when the patient is sedated or asleep. The medical device may comprise a pressure generation source, a ventilation portion, and a mucus clearance portion. The mucus clearance portion may be separable from or separate from the ventilation portion such that the medical device is capable of maintaining lung ventilation with the mouth interface removed from the patient.
