  • Patent number: 6882124
Abstract: The present invention provides a sensor for an adjustable system of a vehicle. The sensor is utilized to facilitate monitoring of adjustment positions with respect to a reference in the system. The sensor comprises a mechanical interface that allows for the input of movement and an electrical device coupled to the mechanical interface that is capable of changing an electrical signal in relation to the movement of the mechanical interface. The electrical signal, which is proportional to the movement input to the mechanical interface, is utilized by a control unit for control purposes, such as to control the positioning of vehicle control pedals, control the positioning of an adjustable seat of a vehicle, or to control the temperature adjustment in a vehicle HVAC system.

  • Patent number: 4053726
Abstract: The illustrated switch comprises a casing, a push-button movable in the casing along a predetermined axis, fixed contact means disposed in the casing opposite the push-button and generally along such axis, an insulating carriage disc disposed in the casing and along the axis at an intermediate point between the push-button and the fixed contact means, the disc being movable toward and away from the fixed contact means, movable contact means mounted on the disc and movable therewith into and out of engagement with the fixed contact means for establishing and breaking an electrical circuit, a first compression spring disposed in the casing between the casing and the disc for biasing the disc and the movable contact means away from the fixed contact means, and a second compression spring disposed between the push-button and the disc for overcoming the strength of the first compression spring and moving the disc to bring the movable contact means into engagement with the fixed contact means when the push-button i

  • Patent number: 4022994
Abstract: Electrical switches are disclosed which are of the type having a slidable contactor which is movable along a predetermined path in a casing. The contactor is engageable with a plurality of electrical contacts disposed along said path. To provide for selective engagement between the contactor and the contacts, at least one fixed cam element is provided along the path of the contactor and is engageable by one or more follower elements on the contactor to lift the contactor away from at least one of said contacts in at least one position of said contactor. In certain embodiments, the contactor is preferably formed with a slot which is adapted to receive an insulating projection on the carriage, so that the contactor is caused to move in a precise manner along with the carriage.

  • Patent number: 3942604
Abstract: The disclosed safety system is particularly applicable to walk-behind lawn mowers of the type having a drive including a control, movable between drive and neutral positions. The safety system includes a drive switch, movable between drive and neutral positions. The safety system also includes a deadman control, biased toward an off position and manually movable to an on position. The deadman control operates a deadman switch between off and on positions. The lawn mower includes a drive motor having a safety circuit for disabling the motor. The drive switch and the deadman switch are connected into the safety circuit and are provided with contacts for disabling the motor when the drive switch is in its drive position and the deadman switch is in its off position. Such contacts are also operative to disable the motor when the drive switch is in its neutral position and the deadman switch is in its on position.

  • Patent number: 3942555
Abstract: A combined electrical switch and fluid control device is disclosed, for simultaneously performing electrical and fluid power control functions. For example, the device may be employed on an automotive vehicle for controlling the operation of electrical components and vacuum operated devices. The control device is particularly well adapted for controlling the operation of a heating and air-conditioning system for an automobile or some other automotive vehicle. The control device may comprise a casing, a control member movable in the casing along a predetermined path, electrical switching means in the casing and operable by the movement of the control member along such path, fluid control means in the casing and including a valve member movable in the casing in a direction transverse to the path of the control member, and camming means operable between the control member and the valve member for moving the valve member transversely to such path in response to movement of the control member along the path.

  • Patent number: 3940585
Abstract: A heavy duty push-button switch for the direct closing and opening of a high-current electrical circuit, such as the starter motor circuit for an internal combustion engine, comprising a casing containing at least two contact points engageable by a contactor disk mounted on a movable carriage member. The contactor disk is freely rotatable on the carriage member when the contactor disk is in transit between the contact points and a backstop. The contact points are preferably made of a silver alloy. Moreover, at least the surface portion of the contactor disk, presented to the contact points, is made of a silver alloy. The transfer of silver is equalized in both directions between the disk and the contact points. The switch preferably includes first spring means for biasing the contactor disk against the backstop.
