Patent number: 8027517Abstract: A method for stratigraphic interpretation of a seismic image for determining a sedimentary history of an underground zone having application to petroleum exploration. The seismic reflectors of the image are digitized by means of an applied shape recognition technique. At least one attribute characteristic of the structure of the image in the vicinity of each reflector is calculated for a set of reflectors by means of an image analysis technique. This analysis is based on at least one analysis window whose shape is controlled by the associated reflector. Pertinent reflectors, in the sense of the stratigraphic interpretation, are selected from among this set of reflectors on the basis of this attribute. Finally, the sedimentary history of the underground zone is reconstructed from a stratigraphic interpretation of the reflectors thus selected.Type: GrantFiled: November 27, 2007Date of Patent: September 27, 2011Assignee: Institut Francais du PetroleInventors: Jérôme Gauthier, Marie-Christine Cacas, Laurent Duval

Patent number: 8024960Abstract: A method and device is disclosed for evaluating simultaneously, and with the same equipment, the electric resistivity and flow parameters of a porous medium, from experimental measurements obtained from at least one multi-flow type displacement experiment which has application in oil reservoir development. The method continuously measures as a function of time the differential pressure between two ends of a sample, the electric resistivity of the sample and, for each stabilization step, at least two values of a displaced fluid production volume are also measured. A continuous curve of the displaced fluid production volume, from which flow parameters are estimated by means of a numerical flow simulator, is then deduced therefrom.Type: GrantFiled: April 24, 2006Date of Patent: September 27, 2011Assignee: Institut Francais du PetroleInventors: Marc Fleury, Philippe Poulain, Patrick Egermann

Patent number: 8024166Abstract: The invention is a method for real-time estimation of the instantaneous engine speed produced by each cylinder of an internal-combustion engine, from an instantaneous engine speed measurement at the end of the engine transmission system. A physical model, representing in real time the dynamics of the transmission system according to the crankshaft angle and to coefficients of a Fourier series decomposition of the instantaneous speed produced by each cylinder, is constructed. These coefficients are determined in real time from coupling between the model and an adaptive type non-linear estimator. The instantaneous speed produced by each cylinder is then deduced from these coefficients. The mean torque produced by each cylinder can also be deduced therefrom. An application is: engine controls.Type: GrantFiled: September 18, 2006Date of Patent: September 20, 2011Assignee: Institut Francais du PetroleInventors: Jonathan Chauvin, Gilles Corde, Nicolas Petit, Pierre Rouchon

Patent number: 7974785Abstract: Method for evaluating fluid pressures in an underground zone by means of seismic and well data. The zone studied is divided into several time analysis intervals. For each of these intervals, a pre-stack stratigraphic inversion of the seismic data is then carried out using geological a priori information, and a lithoseismic facies cube is determined by lithoseismic analysis. Then, for each facies, relations connecting the seismic impedances of wells to differential pressures in wells are determined in each analysis interval. Finally, a differential pressure cube is determined using the previous relations, as well as a confining pressure cube, in order to determine the fluid pressures in the subsoil by simple difference between these two cubes. Application: petroleum sphere for the detection of overpressure zones during drilling for example.Type: GrantFiled: November 13, 2006Date of Patent: July 5, 2011Assignee: Institut Francais du PetroleInventors: Patrick Rasolofosaon, Thierry Tonellot
