The system (10) comprises: a server (20) managing the persistent AR environment; and a first and second device (31, 32) connected to the server (20) and configured for displaying different instances of the persistent AR environment, each device (31, 32) being configured to transmit to the server (20) data indicating a position of the device and angular orientation of a front, top, camera or antenna of the device; wherein the server (20) is configured to detect whether a front, top, camera or antenna of the first and second device (31, 32) are oriented towards each other and if so, to sync the persistent AR environments of the first and second device (31, 32) with each other to connect to a same instance of the persistent AR environment.
