  • Patent number: 10528295
Abstract: A method for segregating zombie storage from dead storage is disclosed. In one embodiment, such a method includes tracking I/O to a storage tier intended to store inactive data. The method analyzes the I/O to identify slightly active data in the storage tier. The method further logically divides the storage tier into a zombie storage pool, intended to store slightly active data, and a dead storage pool, intended to store inactive data. The method segregates, within the storage tier, the slightly active data from the inactive data. This segregation process includes storing the slightly active data in the zombie storage pool and storing the inactive data in the dead storage pool. A corresponding system and computer program product are also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 10528266
Abstract: A method and technique for allocation and balancing of storage resources includes monitoring, for each of a plurality of storage controllers, an input/output (I/O) latency value based on an I/O latency associated with each storage volume controlled by a respective storage controller. A network bandwidth utilization value and a network latency value corresponding to each storage controller is also monitored. An I/O latency value threshold, a network bandwidth utilization threshold, and a network latency value threshold is determined. Responsive to at least one of the I/O latency value, the network bandwidth utilization value and the network latency value for at least one storage controller exceeding a respective threshold, storage volume distribution among the storage controllers is rebalanced.

  • Patent number: 10528527
Abstract: A computing environment includes a home site and a cache site with nonhomogeneous thin-provisioned storage configurations. A file management system updates files stored at the cache site. Each updated file has an updated file size and a pre-update file size. When a resynchronization is needed between the cache site and the home site, for example due to an extended communication failure, the storage requirement changes for the updated files are calculated and a notification is sent to the home site. The notification identifies the updated files and the storage requirement changes. The home site sends a reply to the cache site. The reply identifies which files are approved for immediate processing. The cache site transfers resynchronization data for the approved files to the home site, and delays transferring resynchronization data for the unapproved files until subsequent replies from the home site indicate that the previously unapproved files are now approved.

  • Patent number: 10528437
Abstract: Provided are a computer program product, system, and method for monitoring correctable errors on a bus interface to determine whether to redirect traffic to another bus interface. A processing unit sends Input/Output (I/O) requests from a host to a storage over a first bus interface to a first device adaptor, wherein the first device adaptor provides a first connection to the storage. A determination is made as to whether a number of correctable errors on the first bus interface exceeds an error threshold. The correctable errors are detected and corrected in the first bus interface by hardware of the first bus interface. In response to determining that the number of correctable errors on the first bus interface exceeds the error threshold, at least a portion of I/O requests are redirected to use a second bus interface to connect to a second device adaptor providing a second connection to the storage.

  • Patent number: 10530800
Abstract: An illustrative embodiment of a computer-implemented process for identifying a request invalidating a session excludes all marked logout requests of a Web application, crawls an identified next portion of the Web application and responsive to a determination, in one instance, that the state of the crawl is out of session, logs in to the Web application. The computer-implemented process further selects all crawl requests sent since a last time the crawl was in-session, excluding all marked logout requests and responsive to a determination that requests remain, crawls a selected next unprocessed request. Responsive to a determination, in the next instance, that state of the crawl is out of session and the selected request meets logout request criteria, the computer-implemented process marks the selected request as a logout request.
