Patent number: 9873039Abstract: Methods and systems for triggering integrated game actions include monitoring a user's state during operation a video game with one or more user state sensors. It is determined whether the user's level of activity is below a predetermined activity threshold based on the monitored state considered over a period of time. If the user's level of activity is below the predetermined activity threshold, a game sequence in the video game is triggered that involves physical activity on the part of the user.Type: GrantFiled: July 21, 2015Date of Patent: January 23, 2018Assignee: International Business Machines CorporartionInventors: Minkyong Kim, Min Li, Clifford A. Publication number: 20120078417Abstract: Techniques for energy and environmental leak detection in an indoor environment using one or more mobile robots are provided. An energy leak detection system is provided. The energy leak detection system includes one or more mobile robots configured to move throughout at least a portion of a building and to take temperature and air flow measurements at a plurality of locations within the building. An environmental leak detection system is also provided. The environmental leak detection system includes one or more mobile robots configured to move throughout at least a portion of a building and to take airborne matter measurements at a plurality of locations within the building.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 28, 2010Publication date: March 29, 2012Applicant: International Business Machines CorporartionInventors: Jonathan Hudson Connell, II, Rajarshi Das, Hendrik F. Patent number: 7401081Abstract: An apparatus for providing storage control in a network of storage controllers is disclosed. The apparatus includes an owner storage controller; an I/O performing component, an ownership assignment component, a lock manager and a messaging component. The ownership assignment component assigns ownership of metadata for data to an owner storage controller. The lock manager controls the locking of metadata during I/O. The messaging component passes messages among storage controllers to request metadata state, to grant locks, to request release of locks, and to signal lock release. The I/O is performed on data whose metadata is owned by an owner storage controller, subject to compliance with metadata lock protocols controlled by the owner storage controller, and any copy of the data held from time to time is maintained in a coherency relation with the data.Type: GrantFiled: May 29, 2003Date of Patent: July 15, 2008Assignee: International Business Machines CorporartionInventors: Carlos Francisco Fuente, William James Scales

Patent number: 6249800Abstract: Apparatus and accompanying methods for use preferably in a multi-system shared data (sysplex) environment (100), wherein each system (110) provides one or more servers (115), for dynamically and adaptively assigning and balancing new work and for new session requests, among the servers in the sysplex, in view of attendant user-defined business importance of these requests and available sysplex resource capacity so as to meet overall business goals. Specifically, systems and servers are categorized into two classes: eligible, i.e., goal-oriented servers running under a policy and for which capacity information is currently available, and candidate, i.e., servers which lack capacity information.Type: GrantFiled: June 7, 1995Date of Patent: June 19, 2001Assignee: International Business Machines CorporartionInventors: Jeffrey David Aman, David Bruce Emmes, David Walsh Palmieri

Patent number: 6111268Abstract: The invention relates to an inverted JOFET with an at least bicrystalline electrically conductive substrate-layer bearing an insulating element and a superconductive element with a Josephson-junction. The substrate-layer is connected to a control-element. The invention further relates to a method for making such a JOFET. The grain boundary in the substrate-layer thereby maps into the Josephson-junction in the superconductive element.Type: GrantFiled: July 17, 1998Date of Patent: August 29, 2000Assignee: International Business Machines CorporartionInventors: Jochen Mannhart, Bernd Mayer

Patent number: 6049329Abstract: A method of and system for facilitating stylus input into a text entry field in a pen-based computer system. The system detects a touch down of a stylus and determines whether the touch down is in a text entry field. Upon detection of movement of the stylus in the text entry field greater than a threshold, the system draws an include rectangle around the text entry field. The system sizes the include rectangle based on the size of the text entry field. The system interprets and completely inks any stroke of the stylus starting within the include rectangle within a predetermined timeout as an input to the text entry field. The system erases the include rectangle whenever it detects a stylus touch down outside the include rectangle, or the predetermined timeout expires without the system detecting a stylus touch down.Type: GrantFiled: June 4, 1996Date of Patent: April 11, 2000Assignee: International Business Machines CorporartionInventors: John Mark Zetts, Maurice Roger Desrosiers
