  • Publication number: 20210148049
Abstract: Multiple groups of sensors are circumferentially spaced apart at each cross-directional position along a sensing roll of a nip press to measure and cancel or nearly cancel the effects of rotational variability which may be acting on the sensing roll. The strategically-placed sensors are designed to measure the pressure being placed against the web that is being advanced through the nip press. The average of the measurements of multiple sensors spaced circumferential apart provides a good cancellation of any rotational variability that might be found at a cross-directional position on the sensing roll. In this manner, a more true measurement of the nip pressure profile can be obtained and better adjustments made to reduce nip pressure profile variability. In addition, the nip variability profile may be used as a predictor of cover or bearing failures, resonant frequencies and other roll anomalies.

  • Patent number: 11001968
Abstract: A refining member comprising a refining body with a refining surface comprising first and second refiner bars separated by first and second refiner grooves, respectively. The first refiner bars extend from a radially inward position to a first radially outward position. The second refiner bars extend to a second radially outward position that is nearer to an outermost part of the refining body than the first radially outward position. The second refiner bars have a longitudinal length from about 0.6 cm to about 10 cm. The first and second refiner bars have a respective first and second maximum height extending upward from a floor of a respective, adjacent first or second refiner groove. The second maximum height is at least 0.35 mm less than the first maximum height. The first refiner bars are adapted to refine wood fibers and the second refiner bars are adapted to break up fiber bundles.

  • Publication number: 20210131038
Abstract: Methods of forming crosslinked cellulose include mixing a crosslinking agent with an aqueous mixture of cellulose fibers containing little to no excess water (e.g., solids content of 25-55%), drying the resulting mixture to 85-100% solids, then curing the dried mixture to crosslink the cellulose fibers. Systems include a mixing unit to form, from an aqueous mixture of unbonded cellulose fibers having a solids content of about 25-55% and a crosslinking agent, a substantially homogenous mixture of non-crosslinked, unbonded cellulose fibers and crosslinking agent; a drying unit to dry the substantially homogenous mixture to a consistency of 85-100%; and a curing unit and to cure the crosslinking agent to form dried and cured crosslinked cellulose fibers. Intrafiber crosslinked cellulose pulp fibers produced by such methods and/or systems have a chemical on pulp level of about 2-14% and an AFAQ capacity of at least 12.0 g/g.

Sides of the rigid container are defined by an outer front panel, a first side panel, a back panel, a second side panel, and an inner front panel connected in series at respective first, second, third, and fourth fold lines. A plurality of top flaps are foldably joined to upper edges of the panels to define a top side of the rigid container. A plurality of bottom flaps are foldably joined to lower edges of the panels to define a bottom side of the rigid container. Outer and inner portal covers are formed in the respective outer and inner front panels, and a tear tab is defined by perforated lines adjacent the upper edge of the outer front panel, longitudinally aligned with the outer portal cover.
