  • Patent number: 11464639
Abstract: Methods for generating aortic heart valve leaflets are disclosed wherein the aortic sinus surfaces (the inner surfaces of the sinuses of Valsalva) are used as a template to generate geometric representations of replacement aortic heart valve leaflets. As such, sinus-matched replacement leaflets can be sized and shaped according to the patient-specific geometry of the aortic root. Patient-specific aortic valve assemblies based on aortic root and sinus geometry are also described. Methods for estimating the coaptation area of a sinus-matched valve and assessing whether the valve is functionally competent for implantation are described.

  • Patent number: 11465397
Abstract: An economical, efficient, and effective formation of a high resolution pattern of conductive material on a variety of films by polymer casting. This allows, for example, quite small-scale patterns with sufficient resolution for such things as effective microelectronics without complex systems or steps and with substantial control over the characteristics of the film. A final end product that includes that high resolution functional pattern on any of a variety of substrates, including flexible, stretchable, porous, biodegradable, and/or biocompatible. This allows, for example, highly beneficial options in design of high resolution conductive patterns for a wide variety of applications.

  • Patent number: 11453937
Abstract: Magnet microstructure manipulation in the solid state by controlled application of a sufficient stress in a direction during high temperature annealing in a single-phase region of heat-treatable magnet alloys, e.g., alnico-type magnets is followed by magnetic annealing and draw annealing to improve coercivity and saturation magnetization properties. The solid-state process can be termed highly controlled abnormal grain growth (hereafter AGG) and will make aligned sintered anisotropic magnets that meet or exceed the magnetic properties of cast versions of the same alloy types.

  • Patent number: 11439126
Abstract: Modern broilers are selected for fast growth and a large proportion of breast tissue, contributing to a top-heavy phenotype, leg disorders, and inactivity as birds reach market weight. Therefore, the objective was to motivate broilers to move through environmental enrichment. Twelve hundred Ross 308 broilers were housed in pens of 30 for 6 wk; 600 birds were exposed to a novel laser enrichment device (LASER) and 600 were control. Each device projected 2 randomly moving red laser dots onto the floor 4 times/day for 4-min “laser periods”. Seven LASER and 7 control pens, with 5 focal birds/pen (n=70), were randomly selected to be video-recorded d0-8 and once weekly for the remainder of the trial. Videos were analyzed to measure broiler time-budget and behaviors such latency to feed and distance walked during laser periods. Focal birds were gait scored weekly on-farm. A test of the Human-Approach Paradigm was carried out on wk 1 and 6 on all pens.

  • Patent number: 11378541
Abstract: An automated, fieldable ion-selective sensor system for frequent detection of nutrients in soils or water is set forth. In one aspect, an integrated small form-factor housing includes a battery, processor, a fluid manipulation unit and reservoirs, and a chemical species detection cell. • Patent number: 11379637
Abstract: Various embodiments relate to additive manufacturing in which the Langmuir equation can be used to predict composition in the processing. This equation can be integrated into a model with knowledge of elemental solubility and relative reactivity of relevant elements in the additive manufacturing processing. Use of thermodynamic principles can be programmed into a finite element modeling strategy integrating the Langmuir equation, coupling the thermal fields of additive manufacturing and the surrounding environments with the rules and/or equations to predict solute pickup and/or solute loss. The modeling strategy can be implemented to identify the elements in relative concentrations to be used in the additive manufacturing processing to provide for the controlled loss of certain elements to prevent absorption of unwanted elements into molten material, formed by additive manufacturing, from the atmosphere around the molten material. Additional systems and methods are disclosed.

  • Publication number: 20220177676
Abstract: One or more techniques and/or systems are disclosed for a dry-type lubricant for use in a dry product hopper to help improve dry product flow and to improve anti jamming properties of the dry product. The example lubricant can comprise a hydrophilic fiber, such as cellulose, having a width to length aspect ratio that provides a thin fiber. A plurality of hydrophobic particles are deposited on the surface of the fiber, resulting in a fiber surface exhibiting amphiphobic properties. Further, the fiber can operably absorb water, and then releases the absorbed water to the surface of the fiber under mechanical stress, such as when mixed with a product in a hopper. This can result in the water being disposed on the surface of the fiber, to provide lubrication to a product in a hopper to improve flow and anti jamming characteristics of the product in the hopper.
