    Abstract: An apparatus for treating waste water in which a large number of soft ribbon-like contact members having loop-like fluffs for retaining the active sludge are vertically spread between a large number of suspension rods arranged vertically inside the catalytic oxidation tank in order to permit the ribbon-like contact members to retain the active sludge, to promote the biological oxidation reaction and to permit the catalytic oxidation liquid to flow through the gaps between the implanted ribbon-like contact members that are capable of swaying, thereby preventing clogging of the passages due to the active sludge. Both ends of each of said large number of suspension rods are interconnected by bendable ribbon-like gap-retaining members.

    Abstract: A building structure including a beam of steel or rod reinforced concrete which is sheathed in a U-shaped cross section steel shell, a concrete column which is encased in a steel tube, diagonal bracings and connecting members thereof. The topside of the U-shaped steel shell is open to allow concrete to be filled therethrough. Steel rods are placed in the shell and a steel panel connecting member secures the opposed sidewalls of the shell. Steel bars extend from a floor slab into the beam shell through the aforesaid open topside, thereby rendering the beam integral with the slab. Frame-like steel members for confining reinforcing bars and/or shear connectors are disposed in the inside of the beam shell. A steel sleeve is also provided in the beam shell for defining a space for disposition of equipment. In addition, an opening is provided in the bottom wall of the beam shell so as to allow steel rods to extend from the wall into the beam shell, thereby rendering the beam integral with the wall.

    Abstract: A concrete feeding tube, hereinafter referred to as a "tremie tube", is used to feed concrete grout or the like underwater. This tremie tube consists of an outer tube having desired rigidity and a number of through-holes, and an inner tube having desired pliability, the lower end of the inner tube being adapted to be closed with a closure means. The tremie tube is so designed as to be lowered vertically into a body of water with the lower end of the inner tube being closed with the closure means. So lowered, water is introduced through the aforesaid through-holes inwardly of the wall of the outer tube so as to collapse the inner tube with a resulting decrease in buoyancy of the tremie tube. When the lowered end of the outer tube reaches the water bed then fresh hardening-material, such as concrete grout, is fed into the inner tube under pressure so as to inflate the inner tube.

    Abstract: Subjacent and lateral supporting soil for an underground tank is stabilized wherein a tank embedded therein is secured against flotation irrespective of the water table level of the surrounding soil. The lateral supporting soil is encased within a well and the subjacent soil is hardened to minimize seepage of water into the soil adjacent to the tank. Means are also provided to remove excess water from the confines of the well thereby minimizing flotation pressure on the tank.

    Abstract: The ground surrounding a liquified gas storing underground tank is excavated into a form of a columnar cavity or wall shaped cavity, and then a synthetic resin bag or envelope is placed therein, after which granular materials such as sand or gravel is filled therein, thus forming a water permeable body of a columnar shape or wall-like shape. Then, water is injected into the water permeable body from its bottom and then discharged from the top of the body, thereby warming the peripheral ground of the underground tank for preventing freezing thereof. An apparatus for preventing the freezing of a liquified gas storing underground tank is also disclosed, which includes water feeding and discharging devices provided for the aforesaid water permeable body.
