  • Patent number: 6561802
Abstract: A device is disclosed for identifying caries, plaque, bacterial infection, concretions, tartar and other fluorescent substances on teeth. The device has means for generating stimulating radiation which is to be directed onto a tooth-tissue region that is to be investigated. The device also has detection means and evaluation means for detecting and evaluating fluorescent radiation that is generated by the irradiated tooth-tissue region in response to the irradiation. A beam splitter, which is arranged in the optical path between the means for generating the stimulating radiation and the tooth-tissue region to be investigated and which reflects the stimulating radiation in the direction of the tooth-tissue region and substantially lets through the fluorescent radiation, is formed by the planar rear side of a substantially hemispherical lens. In this way a more compact optical diagnostic device is rendered possible.

  • Patent number: 6495073
Abstract: For the manufacture of shaped parts (6) from ceramics, for example for dental-technical purposes, first of all a powdery ceramic raw material is compressed to form a ceramic green compact (4). The inner contour and/or the outer contour of the shaped parts (6) is then prepared by machining the ceramic green compact (4) by means of eroding methods, with the ceramic green compact (4) being embedded into a workpiece receiver (1) before the Machining by means of an embedding mass (3) which neither damages nor reacts chemically with the ceramic green compact (4). Subsequently, the machined ceramic green compact (4) is sintered to form a high-strength ceramic shaped part. A ceramic material which is almost shrinkage-free during sintering is preferably used.

  • Patent number: 6186780
Abstract: Method and device for the recognition of caries, plaque, concretions or bacterial infections on teeth, whereby with the aid of a light source (1) an excitation radiation (9) is generated which is directed at a tooth (4) to be investigated and there brings about a fluorescence radiation (10). The fluorescence radiation is detected and evaluated with a detection device (8). A spectral filter is arranged before the detection device (8) which restricts the fluorescence radiation detected and evaluated by the detection device (8) to wavelengths greater than ca. 800 nm, in order to make possible an improved detection of carious tooth regions. Advantageously, the irradiation of the tooth to be investigated is effected with a relatively long wavelength excitation radiation (9), the wavelength of which may be for example ca. 780 nm.
