  • Patent number: 6428411
Abstract: A CPU determines the position of a ball in a virtual game space, and moves a viewpoint based on viewpoint data and the position of the ball. The CPU displays on a monitor TV a portion of a volleyball court in a visible range based on the viewpoint and the direction of an axis thereof. The CPU determines a landing position of the ball, displays a first cursor at the landing position, and displays a player character as it receives the ball when the distance between the player character and the first cursor becomes a predetermined distance before the ball reaches the landing position. When a served ball is received by a player character, the CPU selects a player character to make an attacking action. The CPU assigns a button to the selected player character. When the ball is set by a player character as a setter, the CPU assigns an attack button, and controls the selected player character to perform the attacking action in response to an input signal from the attack button.

  • Patent number: 6410835
Abstract: Rhythm sensations can be represented in time to music by using the entire body and to create powerfulness and rhythm sensations. Stepping position indication data which is set by a rhythm setting section is read from a stepping position indication data memory, and the stepping position instruction contents are scrolled and displayed on a monitor by a scroll display control section, thereby performing instructions of the stepping position and the stepping operation timing. When the fact that a player steps on a step-on base section in accordance with the display contents of the monitor is detected by a cable switch and this is input from a stepping operation monitor section, a score proportional to the timing deviation is calculated by an amount-of-deviation detection/totaling section, and next, an evaluation is performed by the rhythm setting section. Then, the next stepping position indication data is set according to the evaluation result.

  • Patent number: 6409597
Abstract: A video game machine includes a viewpoint-position control unit. The viewpoint-position control unit uses a rendering unit to set a position of a viewpoint when a player's car is displayed in a game screen on a monitor. The viewpoint is positioned behind and slightly above the player's car, and is moved along viewpoint positions provided in a world coordinate system. A viewpoint closest to the player's car corresponds to zero points, and a viewpoint farthest from the player's car corresponds to 500 points. Set points for the viewpoint are provided in accordance with whether each viewpoint condition is satisfied. In the case where the present points for the viewpoint differ from the set points when each viewpoint condition is satisfied, the viewpoint is moved at a moving speed based on a number of points per frame.

  • Patent number: 6390918
Abstract: In a video game system, model data and a plurality of arrangement-data groups formed of model numbers, position data, rotation-angle data, and scale data are recorded into a recording medium. An operation detection unit detects an operation on a controller. A viewpoint movement section moves the viewpoint, and a field-of-view determination section determines a model included in the field of view. An instruction control section outputs the arrangement-data group corresponding to this model. An image processing processor converts the coordinate data of each vertex of a plurality of polygons constituting the corresponding model at the position indicated by the position data sent from the instruction control section, according to the rotation-angle data and the scale data, and assigns the texture specified by each texture instruction data to each polygon.
