Abstract: A sewage system comprising a network of sewage sumps that temporarily store sewage produced in a dwelling or other structure, each of said sumps preferably comprising a computer controller for operating a pump in the sump such that the sewage collected in the sump may be pumped out of the sump and into the collection system in a controlled manner to regulate the flow of sewage material in the system. The regulation of the sewage flow permits the efficient operation of a sewage treatment facility that receives sewage from the network of sewage sumps by insulating the facility from the peak burdens that would be placed on it at certain times of day in the absence of a system that regulates sewage flow into the system at the source of the sewage.
Abstract: A variable-speed submersible pump has a centrifugal pump, with a grinder for entrained solids at the intake, driven by a variable-speed 3-phase AC motor. A microcontroller controls the pump output on the basis of sensor data and/or inputs from an external controller, and also monitors the operation of the pump unit and emits alarms and statistical reports as appropriate. If the pump is clogged, the controller attempts to free it, firstly by reducing the pump speed and increasing the torque, secondly by jogging the pump backwards, and thirdly by running the pump briefly at maximum speed. Before pumping starts, and at intervals when the tank in which the pump is submerged is not full enough to be worth emptying, the pump is run backwards. That serves to agitate the tank, re-suspend any solids content that may tend to settle out in the tank, and thus improve pumping of the solids with the liquid.

Abstract: An improved pump assembly having a housing assembly, a motor assembly and a pump, the housing assembly having a motor mounting plate supporting the motor assembly and the pump. The motor assembly has a motor with a rotatable shaft extending through a shaft aperture in the motor mounting plate to operatively connect to an impeller of the pump. The motor assembly includes a shaft sealing and alignment assembly which provides precise alignment and sealing of the rotatable shaft by a shaft seal mount and a shaft seal disposed in a precisely configured shaft seal bore therein. The shaft seal mount attaches to the motor and has its distal end disposed in the shaft aperture of the motor mounting plate.
