  • Patent number: 10541896
Abstract: Methods and systems are provided for connecting an electronic device to a network. In some situations, the electronic device connects to a first network provider and pings a first server having a static internet protocol address and a second server having a dedicated uniform resource locator. If the electronic device receives a response from the first and second server, the electronic device maintains its connection to the first network provider. Otherwise, the electronic device connects to a second network provider and pings the first and second servers.

  • Patent number: 10539959
Abstract: The technology relates to detecting a person directing traffic. For instance, a first vehicle may be controlled in an autonomous driving mode. Sensor data is received from a perception system of the first vehicle, the sensor data identifying a person. Behavior of the person is observed using the sensor data. The observed behavior of the person and the observed behavior of a second vehicle are used to determine a likelihood value indicative of whether the person is directing traffic. The first vehicle is maneuvered in the autonomous driving mode based on the determined likelihood value.

  • Patent number: 10537823
Abstract: A method for removing carbon dioxide from a carrier liquid using a heat exchanger. A carrier liquid, containing carbon dioxide, is heated through the heat exchanger, causing the carbon dioxide to vaporize. The carrier liquid and the carbon dioxide gas pass to a liquid removal vessel. The carrier liquid is removed and the carbon dioxide gas is compressed. The compressed carbon dioxide gas is provided to the heat exchanger, cooling the carbon dioxide gas opposite the carrier liquid, producing a carbon dioxide liquid.

  • Patent number: 10538365
Abstract: The present disclosure generally relates to an insulating device, for example a cooler, and a latch and latching system for securing a lid of the insulating device in a closed position. More specifically, the insulating device includes a chest coupled to a lid, and a ledge extending from the chest. A slot is formed in the ledge and for each slot, a pair of protrusions extend from a bottom surface of the ledge on other side of the slot. The protrusions are received by corresponding recesses formed in the latch. Thus, when the latch is in the engaged position, the protrusions are physically securely engaged in the recesses by virtue of the latch being in a tensioned configuration.

  • Patent number: 10540519
Abstract: The privacy of linear queries on histograms is protected. A database containing private data is queried. Base decomposition is performed to recursively compute an orthonormal basis for the database space. Using correlated (or Gaussian) noise and/or least squares estimation, an answer having differential privacy is generated and provided in response to the query. In some implementations, the differential privacy is ?-differential privacy (pure differential privacy) or is (?,?)-differential privacy (i.e., approximate differential privacy). In some implementations, the data in the database may be dense. Such implementations may use correlated noise without using least squares estimation. In other implementations, the data in the database may be sparse. Such implementations may use least squares estimation with or without using correlated noise.

  • Patent number: 10542258
Abstract: Tile copying may include decoding a current frame from an encoded video bitstream by decoding, from the encoded video bitstream, tile information for a current tile of the current frame. Decoding the tile information for the current tile of the current frame includes decoding a reference tile offset, and the tile information for the current tile omits encoded tile content information corresponding to the current tile. From the encoded video bitstream, encoded tile content information corresponding to the reference tile is identified based on the reference tile offset, a decoded tile corresponding to the current tile is generated by decoding the encoded tile content information corresponding to the reference tile as the current tile, and the decoded tile is output or stored.

  • Patent number: 10542291
Abstract: An adaptive video noise reduction (AVNR) engine reduces noise in streaming video. The engine reads embedded information in the streaming video describing attributes of the video, such as bit rate, frame rate, resolution, content type and quality of the streaming video. The information may be included in a manifest of the streaming video. Based on the video attributes, the engine outputs one or more input values to applications that reduce noise of the streaming video. The one or more applications may reduce mosquito, block, temporal, random and banding noise of the video in response to the input values from the engine.

  • Patent number: 10541578
Abstract: A permanent magnet electric machine (PM machine) for a vehicle or other system includes a rotor assembly, fixed permanent magnets, a stator, an actuator, and one or more repositionable/moveable flux-shunting elements. The flux-shunting element is repositioned to control flux at specific operating points of the PM machine. The rotor assembly has a rotor coaxially surrounding and coupled to a rotor shaft. The permanent magnets are mounted to or in the rotor, and the moveable flux-shunting element is positioned between the rotor shaft and a respective one of the permanent magnets. Inboard and outboard ends of each respective permanent magnet may be oriented toward the rotor shaft and stator, respectively. The actuator selectively positions the moveable flux-shunting element at one or more operating points of the PM machine to vary reluctance in a magnetic circuit formed by the stator and rotor assembly.

  • Patent number: 10542462
Abstract: A system comprises an integrated small cell and WiFi (ISW) gateway (GW). The ISW GW is integrated with a mobility management entity (MME) and serving gateway (SGW) and has interfaces with both a 3 GPP access network and a TWAN. The ISW GW operates as a common control gateway and a common user gateway for both LTE networks and TWANs. User equipment (UE) by means of the ISW GW is able to access the capabilities of a packet data network (PDN) through either the LTE network or TWAN. Further, the ISW GW provides for an existing communication connection between a UE and a PDN to be handed over from one of the LTE network or TWAN to the other. Still further, the ISW GW supports simultaneously maintaining two communication paths, one via the LTE network and one via the TWAN, between a UE and a packet network.

  • Patent number: 10542122
Abstract: In server/client architectures, the server application and client applications are often developed in different languages and execute in different environments specialized for the different contexts of each application (e.g., low-level, performant, platform-specialized, and stateless instructions on the server, and high-level, flexible, platform-agnostic, and stateful languages on the client) and are often executed on different devices. Convergence of these environments (e.g., server-side JavaScript using Node.js) enables the provision of a server that services client applications executing on the same device. The local server may monitor local events occurring on the device, and may execute one or more server scripts associated with particular local events on behalf of local clients subscribing to the local event (e.g., via a subscription model).

  • Patent number: 10537831
Abstract: The present invention includes an apparatus and corresponding method for concentrating analytes within a fluid flowing through a tube using acoustic radiation pressure. The apparatus includes a function generator that outputs a radio frequency electrical signal to a transducer that transforms the radio frequency electric signal to an acoustic signal and couples the acoustic signal to the tube. The acoustic signal is converted within the tube to acoustic pressure that concentrates the analytes within the fluid.

  • Patent number: 10540584
Abstract: A direct memory access (DMA) engine may be responsible to enable and control DMA data flow within a computing system. The DMA engine moves blocks of data, associated with descriptors in a plurality of queues, from a source to a destination memory location or address, autonomously from control by a computer system's processor. Based on analysis of the data blocks linked to the descriptors in the queues, the DMA engine and its associated DMA fragmenter ensure that data blocks stored linked to descriptors in the queues do not remain idle for an exorbitant period of time. The DMA fragmenter may divide large data blocks into smaller data blocks to ensure that the processing of large data blocks does not preclude the timely processing of smaller data blocks associated with one or more descriptors in the queues. The data blocks stored may be two-dimensional data blocks.
