Abstract: A method of forming an annealed magnet includes positioning a magnetizing array ring concentrically with a ring of bulk magnetic material to form an assembly, the magnetizing array ring having a magnetic field defining directions for orienting grains of the ring of bulk magnetic material, placing the assembly in a furnace, and operating the furnace to anneal the ring of bulk magnetic material and grow the grains in the directions. A magnetic array assembly includes a furnace; and an assembly including (i) a ring of bulk magnetic material having grains and (ii) a magnetizing array ring concentric with the ring of bulk magnetic material, and having a magnetic field defining directions for orienting the grains during growth thereof in a presence of heat from the furnace.

Abstract: A door inside release spring for a vehicle door assembly includes a torsional spring body, and a first spring arm extending from a first axial end of the spring body. The first spring arm is configured to be operably connected to an inside release lever to bias a position of the inside release lever. A second spring arm extends from a second axial end of the spring body opposite the first axial end. The second spring arm is configured to be operably connected to a child lock lever to bias a position of the child lock lever.

Abstract: A modeling system may generate a function model and a corresponding functional complexity score (FCS) for display on a graphical user interface (GUI). The FCS may be calculated by looping through each level of the function model and determining a score based on both hierarchical relationships and functional relationships within the function model at each level. The modeling system may constantly monitor for additional inputs representative of an additional function or changes to current functions and automatically update the FCS displayed on the GUI based on the additional inputs.

Abstract: A local area social networking server limits social networking activity to people likely to be in close physical proximity to one another and likely to be engaged in similar activities, even people previously unknown to each other, by only permitting social networking between computing devices that are connected to one another through a common local area network. The server identifies recipient devices for a message that (i) are coupled to the same local area network as the sending device, (ii) are associated with demographic characteristics that match those specified for the message as intended recipients, and (iii) are indicated by receptivity data to be receptive to the message and the sender.

Abstract: Aspects of the disclosure provide methods and apparatuses for point cloud compression. In some examples, an apparatus for point cloud compression includes processing circuitry. In some embodiments, the processing circuitry determines one or more original points in a point cloud that are associated with a reconstructed position. Positions of the one or more original points can be reconstructed, according to a geometry quantization, to the reconstructed position. The processing circuitry then determines an attribute value for the reconstructed position based on attribute information of the one or more original points, and encodes texture of the point cloud with the reconstructed position having the determined attribute value.

Abstract: An example method for managing access to a VR platform includes causing presentation of a virtual room including display of a plurality of user identifiers corresponding to users using a non-VR mobile application and users using the VR platform. The plurality of user identifiers are sorted on a wait list based on an elapsed wait time associated with each user. The example method also includes causing display of a graphical assistance pod, and responsive to its activation, displaying a user interface to present tools usable selectable by a support representative for managing interactions with the plurality of users. The example method further includes establishing a secure communication channel between the support representative and the at least one of the plurality of users using the non-VR mobile application.

Abstract: A mobile image capture device is provided that can include an image capture system operable to capture image frames and be configured to: provide a live video stream for display in a viewfinder portion of a user interface that depicts at least a portion of a current field of view of the image capture system; store a video segment from the live video stream in a temporary image buffer that includes a plurality of image frames captured by the image capture system; receive a user input that is directed to the viewfinder portion of the user interface that requests a rewind operation; and, in response to such user input, perform the rewind operation in the viewfinder portion of the user interface with respect to the video segment in which at least two of the image frames of the video segment can be provided for display in the user interface in a reverse chronological order.

Abstract: A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium having instructions stored thereon that, in response to execution by one or more processors of a computing system, cause the computing system to perform actions. The actions include receiving a pool of known fabricable designs for a physical device, generating proposed fabricable designs capable of being fabricated by a fabrication system based on pre-determined design rules, obtaining metadata characterizing the proposed fabricable designs, and updating the pool of the known fabricable designs by adding one or more of the proposed fabricable designs to the pool based, at least in part, on the metadata.

Abstract: This invention provides methods for diagnosing Alzheimer's disease in a symptomatic human subject, and for determining whether a human subject is predisposed to becoming afflicted with Alzheimer's disease. These methods employ the steps of (a) culturing a subject's lymphocytes with a suitable basement membrane matrix to permit the lymphocytes to aggregate; (b) measuring the resulting lymphocyte aggregation; and (c) based on such measurement, either diagnosing Alzheimer's disease or determining a predisposition to it, as appropriate.

Abstract: A paint applicator, kit and methodology for using the same is disclosed. For example, a paint applicator that allows a user to load a desired amount of paint, such as a water based or other low VOC paint, into the paint applicator and an advancement mechanism that dispenses paint at a rate controllable by the user is disclosed. The advancement mechanism can include a system that translates a rotational force applied to an end cap of the applicator into a linear force that advances a piston which in turn applies paint to an applicator portion. The paint applicator may be reusable or may include a ratchet system that allows for only one time use. The methodology and kit can incorporate a syringe for loading paint into the paint applicator, thus reducing the loss of paint through spilling.

Abstract: A multi-extruder includes a passive height control mechanism that adjusts the relative height of its extruders without the use of additional, active components. Further, the height control mechanism may employ ramped control surfaces that mitigate noise and vibration by gradually transferring vertical loads while transferring from one active extruder to another.

Abstract: A mobile communication device-based corneal topography system includes an illumination system, a mobile communication device and a corneal topography optical housing. The illumination system is configured to generate an illumination pattern and to generate reflections of the illumination pattern off a cornea of a subject, wherein the illumination system is aligned along an axis of centers of the illumination pattern. The mobile communication device includes an image sensor to capture an image of the reflected illumination pattern. The corneal topography optical housing is coupled to the illumination system and the mobile communication device, wherein the corneal topography optical housing supports and aligns the illumination system with the image sensor of the mobile communication device. The corneal topography optical housing includes an imaging system coupled to the image sensor.

Abstract: A lightweight machine-to-machine (LWM2M) protocol can be utilized as a management layer for other applications pertaining to communication and retrieval of information from hardware peripherals. The applications can be managed via a client and the applications can communicate to the client via a standard proxy or message broker. Consequently, sensor codes can be decoupled from the client codes, thus allowing them to both be independent interchangeable components of a specific device's architecture. Therefore, sensors can be added, removed, and/or manipulated without modifying the underlying management layer.

Abstract: A quantum computing system is adapted to prepare a cat state in a quantum circuit with fault tolerance t and circuit depth less than or equal to 4+4t by performing a series of operations that includes: performing a sequence of joint parity measurements on individual pairs of neighboring qubits in a series of qubits entangled to form an initial cat state; repeating the sequence of measurements over at least t-rounds; and disentangling a first set of alternating qubits from the initial cat state, the prepared cat state being formed by a remaining second set of alternating qubits, the second set of alternating qubits being interlaced with the first set of alternating qubits along a line of one-dimensional connectivity, the series of operations being sufficient to guarantee that a prepared cat state is has less than or equal to t number of faults.

Abstract: Provided are external fixation horns and clamp for use with struts in conjunction with external bone fixation (EBF) devices. A fixation horn is a cylindrical component intended to connect and provide further fixation locations for a half-pin clamp. A horn can be offered at various angles and lengths to best fit the application and surgeon preference. Prior to securement, the horn is positioned in the desired position and orientation relative to the half-pin clamp. Once in position, a floating collar of the horn is tightened onto the clamp. The collar compresses a serrated face of the horn with a mating serrated face of the clamp. The serrated faces of the horn and half-pin clamp are designed to lock together and resist rotational slippage during use.
