Patent number: 11736675Abstract: Methods are described herein for signaling information regarding different viewpoints in a multi-viewpoint omnidirectional media presentation. In some embodiments, a container file (which may use the ISO Base Media File Format) is generated containing several tracks. The tracks are grouped using a track-group identifier, where each track-group identifier is associated with a different viewpoint. In some embodiments, a manifest (such as an MPEG-DASFI MPD) is generated, where the manifest includes viewpoint identifiers that identify the viewpoint associated with each stream. In some embodiments, metadata included in a container file and/or in a manifest provides information on the position of each viewpoint, the intervals during which each viewpoint is available, transition effects for transitions between viewpoints, and/or recommended projection formats for corresponding field-of-view ranges.Type: GrantFiled: April 4, 2019Date of Patent: August 22, 2023Assignee: InterDigital Madison Patent Holdings, SASInventors: Yong He, Yan Ye, Ahmed Hamza

Patent number: 11722677Abstract: Systems and methods related to video encoding and decoding using decoder-side intra mode derivation (DIMD) are described. In an exemplary method of coding samples in a block in a video, an intra coding mode is selected based on a plurality of reconstructed samples in a template region adjacent to the block, and the samples in the block are predicted with intra prediction using the selected intra coding mode. The intra coding mode may be selected by testing a plurality of candidate intra coding modes for cost (e.g. distortion) of predicting the template region from a set of reconstructed reference samples. The mode with the lowest cost is used for prediction. In exemplary embodiments, explicit signaling of the intra mode is not required.Type: GrantFiled: May 5, 2017Date of Patent: August 8, 2023Assignee: InterDigital Madison Patent Holdings, SASInventors: Xiaoyu Xiu, Yuwen He, Yan Ye

Patent number: 11711543Abstract: A method for video decoding is disclosed. A directional intra prediction mode is decoded for a block of a picture, the directional intra prediction mode having a direction. Based on the directional intra prediction mode, a first predictor and a second predictor for a sample in the current block are accessed, the first and second predictors being on a line at least approximating the direction. A sample value of the sample is predicted by interpolation using the first and second predictors, responsive to a difference between the second and first predictors, wherein the difference is scaled by at least a ratio that is based on a location of the sample in the block, and wherein a denominator of the ratio is a power of two regardless of the location of the sample. The sample of the block is reconstructed based on the predicted sample value.Type: GrantFiled: November 22, 2021Date of Patent: July 25, 2023Assignee: InterDigtal Madison Patent Holdings, SASInventors: Gagan Bihari Rath, Fabrice Le Leannec, Franck Galpin, Fabien Racape

Patent number: 11706447Abstract: A method of performing intra prediction for encoding or decoding uses multiple layers of reference samples. The layers are formed into reference arrays that are used by a function, such as a weighted combination, to form a final prediction. The prediction is used in encoding or decoding a block of video data. The weights can be determined in a number of ways, and for a given prediction mode, the same weights, or different weights can be used for all pixels in a target block. If the weights are varied, they can depend on the distance of the target pixel from reference arrays.Type: GrantFiled: October 27, 2021Date of Patent: July 18, 2023Assignee: InterDigital Madison Patent Holdings, SASInventors: Gagan Rath, Tangi Poirier, Fabrice Urban

Patent number: 11624934Abstract: Display methods and apparatus are described. In some embodiments, to generate an image, light is selectively emitted from one or more light-emitting elements (such as a ?LEDs) in a light-emitting layer. The emitted light from each element is collimated using, for example, an array of microlenses having small apertures. Each beam of collimated light is split by a first diffractive grating into a first generation of child beams, and the first generation of child beams is split by a second diffractive grating into a second generation of child beams. Beams in the second generation of child beams that are not parallel to the original beam of collimated light may be blocked by a spatial light modulator (e.g. an LCD panel). The un-blocked beams operate in some respects as if they had been generated using optics with an aperture larger than the apertures of the microlenses.Type: GrantFiled: October 23, 2018Date of Patent: April 11, 2023Assignee: InterDigital Madison Patent Holdings, SASInventors: Jukka-Tapani Makinen, Kai Ojala
