Abstract: In a machine tool having a palette change-over device protected by a movable U-shaped hood, to prevent injury to the operator or accidental damage during movement of the hood the hood is provided with a probe and an automatic circuit breaker arranged to shut down at least the driving mechanism of the hood on contact with the operator or another foreign body in the path of movement of the hood.

Abstract: The subject matter of the present invention is a dividing apparatus or indexing attachment for a program controlled machine tool, comprising a housing (1) including clamping means (3, 4) for attachment to a machine part, a dividing spindle (5) mounted within the housing (1) and including a work holder (8, 9) and a clamping assembly (15), and a spindle drive means including a reduction gearing, in which for achieving fully automatic sequences of operation in the manufacture of various workpieces, an opto-electronic angle measuring unit (24) and a releasable clamping means (31 to 36) are associated with the dividing spindle (5), wherein the reduction gearing includes two cylindrical gears (29, 30) having parallel axes and jointly meshing with a pinion (27) mounted on the motor shaft and further includes two pinions (46, 47) mounted on the intermediate shafts (40, 41) of said cylindrical gears, the two latter pinions meshing with the spindle drive gear (10).

Abstract: The invention relates to a manipulation system for workpieces, in which the individual workpieces are gripped by manipulator gripping arms and transported to predetermined locations in processing and/or magazine stations. For permitting a technically simple manipulation and transport of workpieces of different shapes by the use of tongs as gripping tools provided at the gripping arms, the invention provides that to an easily accessible wall of the respective workpiece a handling member is secured which is so designed and arranged as to permit the tongs to engage this handling member for transporting the workpiece e.g. from a magazine to the machine tool. Suitably, this handling member is in the form of a hollow pin which with an enlarged base is bonded to the workpiece and, after processing, may be knocked off or separated from the workpiece in some other manner.

Abstract: A headstock for a universal milling and drilling machine. The headstock includes a horizontal spindle within the headstock housing. A swivel head to which a vertical milling head is mounted is rotatably mounted at a 45.degree. angle on the headstock and is lockable in position by a locking mechanism.

Abstract: A disk magazine particularly useful as a tool holder for a universal drilling and milling machine comprises a disk having a plurality of tool holders disposed at fixed intervals on the outer perimeter and a drive means for rotating the disk in steps corresponding to the spacing between the tool holders. The disk comprises a connected pair of spaced apart flat plates. In a preferred embodiment, at least one of the plates is an annular plate having recessed regions on its inner periphery and the drive means comprises a Geneva drive mechanism for engaging the recessed regions. This disk magazine can be conveniently mounted on a universal drilling and milling machine with the disk horizontal above the headstock.

Abstract: A switching device for variable speed gears in machine tools having an assembly which includes a plurality of axially disposed, rotatably-driven cam discs, each of which is associated with an electric microswitch. Non-rotatable spacers serve to position the cam discs. A spherical key bed clamp axially clamps the cam discs together while permitting rotation of individual ones thereof. A non-rotating indicating disc displays the present RPM or respective gear stage. A shock absorber in the individual gear trains between switching bars and their respective electric motors provides sufficient damping and cushioning to prevent a hard start-up impact when the motor is switched on or when a sliding gear block is engaged. The shock absorber may include an elastic linkage or an elastic spur gear in a toothed wheel gear reduction unit located between the motor drive shaft and the link shaft.

Abstract: A tightening and clamping mechanism for the mandrel collar of a milling or boring spindle. The clamping elements are semi-circular devices with notches in their outer surfaces. By engaging the notches with retainer pins and tightening actuators, the clamping elements may be closed around the mandrel collar thereby securing it to the spindle housing.
