Patent number: 4467720Abstract: Each individual, freely rotatable ring of a spiral-type ductor is mounted on an eccentric which is supported for rotation on a multi-eccentric shaft is angularly offset relative to its adjacent eccentric portion by at least an amount corresponding to the number of rings. The multi-eccentric shaft is connected to the drive of an inking system directly while the eccentric is connected thereto through a pinion, a pinion shaft, a gear and a separate sequential transmission with an integral speed ratio. In consequence, the center of the ring describes a curve which is flattened in the zone where the ring is in contact with an inking roller. The contact duration is thereby extended without varying the speed.Type: GrantFiled: November 3, 1982Date of Patent: August 28, 1984Assignee: Maschinenfabrik Wifag PRInventor: Peter Gertsch

Patent number: 4070965Abstract: A rotary printing press assembly having a plurality of serially arranged printing units includes a chain conveyor apparatus for sequentially continuously moving a material web through the successive printing units of the assembly. The forward end of the material web to be passed through the assembly is looped about a lead-in bar which is then engaged by a chain conveyor in order to pass the web through the printing units. A pivoted pawl engaging mechanism fixed to the chain conveyor locks in engagement with a recessed cam surface of the lead-in bars while a locking bolt enters a bore in the lead-in bar to effect driving engagement between the lead-in bar and the conveyor chain. When the lead-in bar has passed through a printing unit the driving pawl is automatically disengaged from the conveyor chain of the printing unit, and for lead-in bar is transferred into engagement with the conveyor chain of a next printing unit.Type: GrantFiled: November 3, 1976Date of Patent: January 31, 1978Assignee: Maschinenfabrik WifagInventors: Werner Aenishaenslin, Fritz Suter, Ulrich Pfeuti, Paul Haag

Patent number: 4055120Abstract: In a rotary printing machine, the cylinder for holding the printing plate has a printing plate tensioning device formed in it, which includes an adjustably positionable tensioning rail. To adjust this rail, a set of marks is formed on the cylinder. A support base carries an optical device to view the marks. On the base there are tensioning rail engaging adjustably positionable abutments and the alignment of the marks in the field of view of the optical device enables proper positioning of the abutments and of the tensioning rail.Type: GrantFiled: April 7, 1976Date of Patent: October 25, 1977Assignee: Maschinenfabrik WifagInventor: Wolfgang Kamm

Patent number: 4040348Abstract: A ductor or film-transferring inking mechanism for printing machine, particularly for offset presses, which comprise a plate cylinder having a printing form, an ink reservoir and a ductor roller mounted for rotation so as to dip into the ink reservoir and at least one additional rotatable distributor roller engageable between the ductor roller and the plate cylinder. A rotatable takeoff roller is associated with one of the distributor rollers of the inking mechanism and is adapted to engage with one of these rollers and take up the periodically unused and no longer applicable ink from this roller and to be moved to a position so as to be engageable with a stripper roller so as to transfer this ink to the stripping roller. A stripper such as a ductor blade is engaged with the surface of the stripper roller and it strips the ink therefrom and permits it to return into either a separate container or directly back into the ink reservoir.Type: GrantFiled: April 8, 1976Date of Patent: August 9, 1977Assignee: Maschinenfabrik WifagInventors: Peter Gertsch, Alfons Wehrli

Patent number: 4036487Abstract: Apparatus for forming in a sheet a fold extending transversely of the direction of sheet travel therethrough is provided with a triad of cylinders rotating about parallel axes. The sheets to be folded are first engaged about the periphery of a first of said triad of cylinders with their trailing and leading edges engaged by releasable grippers. A folding blade located between said grippers on said first cylinder causes a portion of the sheet intermediate the leading and trailing end thereof to be engaged by a folding flap provided on a second of said triad of cylinders. The folding flap engages the sheet at an intermediate point thereon and draws the sheet off said first cylinder while the sheet ends are positively held in a controlled manner. The third of said triad of cylinders cooperates by engaging the leading end of said sheet as said sheet is drawn off said first cylinder by the second cylinder.Type: GrantFiled: September 9, 1975Date of Patent: July 19, 1977Assignee: Maschinenfabrik WifagInventors: Paul Heimlicher, Eduard Von Hein
