  • Patent number: 4542785
Abstract: The agricultural harvester 10 cooling system includes a heat exchanger 38 for cooling an internal combustion engine 32 and a heat exchanger air cleaner assembly 36. The heat exchanger air cleaner assembly has a fixed screen 62 adjacent the heat exchanger 32 which forms one wall of a large box 45. Channel members 64 and 66 and flat bars 68 hold the fixed screen 62 in a plane and form a plurality of pie-shaped compartments. The air cutoff plate 78 on rotatable shaft 72 closes the pie-shaped compartments and substantially blocks the flow of air through the fixed screen 62. A suction pipe 84 adjacent the fixed screen 62 and inside the large box 45 rotates with the rotatable shaft 72 directly across the fixed screen from the cutoff plate 78. The suction pipe 84 is connected to the intake of a centrifugal blower 118 by a vacuum pipe 96.

  • Patent number: 4455930
Abstract: Method and apparatus for delivering twine to a baler knotter. The baler (10) which performs the method includes a bale chamber (16) having a forward inlet end. A knotter (64) is disposed to one side of the bale chamber and the baler is of the type having feeding means including a pair of rollers (36) which are moved back and forth across the inlet end of the bale chamber. A portion (90) of the twine is supported on the lower feed roller as the rollers are moved back and forth across the inlet end of the bale chamber. A pickup needle (110 or 302) is associated with the knotter, and at the initiation of the tying cycle moves from an at rest position towards the lower roller to pick up the twine and then to a position above the twine disks (140) of the knotter to deliver the twine to the knotter and then returns to its at rest position. The twine is tensioned by a twine drag (144) and a pigtail type tensioning mechanism (146) both during the formation of a bale and during tying.

  • Patent number: 4413553
Abstract: An apparatus for coordinating the operation of the bale tying mechanism with the feeding apparatus of a baler. The baler (10) includes a bale chamber (16), feeding means (26) including a pair of feed rollers (36) which are moved back and forth across the inlet end by reciprocating means (46, 48) including a hydraulic cylinder. The bale tying means includes a knotter (64), a pickup needle (110), and a knotter shaft (76) capable of driving the knotter and the needle. The actuating means which is capable of actuating the bale tying means includes a bale length metering mechanism (202 to 218), a constantly driven sprocket (230), and a single revolution clutch (220), the actuating means being capable of initiating the operation of the clutch (220) to cause rotation of the knotter shaft (76) when the bale length has been achieved.

  • Patent number: 4211057
Abstract: An automatic table height control for a combine harvester including a height sensing assembly and a control system. The height sensing assembly includes a finger support shaft rotatably journaled on the bottom of the table. A spring is provided to rotate the shaft in one direction. A plurality of ground engaging fingers are pivotally connected to the finger support shaft. A lost motion connection is provided to limit rotation of the finger support shaft relative to each finger. An iron vane is attached to one end of the finger support shaft. A pair of proximity switches are mounted on the crop harvesting table adjacent the path of movement of the iron vane. When the vane is close to both proximity switches, they are open. When one of the ground engaging fingers rotates the iron vane away from one proximity switch that switch closes and energizes a relay in the control system that energizes a solenoid on the header height control valve to raise or lower the table.

  • Patent number: 4170235
Abstract: An axial flow combine harvester with a frame and an axial flow threshing and separating rotor rotatably mounted on the frame in a tubular casing. Feed means are provided for feeding crop material from a crop harvesting table to the axial flow threshing and separating rotor. The feed means includes an auger beater with a shaft rotatably journaled on the frame, at least one spiral flight section with a right hand helix attached to the shaft and at least one spiral flight section with a left hand helix attached to the left. The auger beater receives a mat of crop material, moves both edges of the mat toward the center and then feeds the mat to the axial flow threshing and separating rotor.

  • Patent number: 4000600
Abstract: A crop-gathering table for a combine harvester has a tubular main cross beam on which are supported at spaced intervals a plurality of angle iron ribs extending downwardly and then forwardly to support the back wall and then the bottom wall of the table and to support the cutter bar at the front end of the ribs. A stiffener plate is secured to the bottom of the ribs so that with the bottom wall of the table a plurality of hollow cells are formed to provide a rigid but lightweight table structure.

  • Patent number: 3983883
Abstract: A grain saving apparatus for a combine disposed at the discharge end of the combine includes a vaned member rotated relative to a straw support in the form of an open grate concave to receive a mixture of straw and grain from straw walkers in the separating sections of the combine and to change direction and velocity of movement of the material and direct it between the vaned member and straw support to separate grain and straw so that the heavier grain is collected for processing in the combine and the lighter straw is discharged by the vaned member to the rear of the combine.
