    Abstract: A belt connector and method for interconnecting opposite ends of a filtering belt has a plurality of wire hooks, each with two shanks disposed adjacent opposite faces of the belt, a coupling loop interconnecting the shanks and hook ends that are pressed into the opposite faces of the belt. A flat cover element extends across the width of the belt, covers at least portions of the wire hooks, overlies the opposite faces of the belt, and has a carrier material and a coating that is applied to the belt side of the carrier material, and is constructed from a thermoplastic or an adhesive material which is pressed into the pores of the belt to positively and mechanically interconnect the cover element with the belt.

A thin cutting blade is mounted in the base at a predetermined angle, and includes a U-shaped cutting edge defined by a flat central area and upstanding side areas at opposite sides of the central area. The U-shaped cutting edge extends through the blade opening, and is positioned a predetermined distance below the bearing surface to cut a groove in the belt face having a uniform depth.

The belt lacer includes a bending die configured to bend free ends of the staples upon penetration into and through the associated belt end, and a press head operably connected with said bending die with a die that is shifted vertically in the direction of said bending die to insert the staples. Positioners upstanding from the bending die are configured to abuttingly engage the connectors to precisely locate the same on the bending die, and a centering rod is inserted through the eye loops of the connectors, and is laterally shiftable toward and away from the bending die, such that the connectors are accurately and positively positioned along the associated belt end by capturing the connectors between the positioners and the centering rod.

A strap fastener connects the opposite end of the reinforcing strap to the conveyor belt, whereby the reinforcing strap relieves stress at the opposite sides of the belt connector to provide greater strength and durability.

The conveyor belt ends are joined together with a hinge joint or lacing, which is exclusively located outside of the curved sections of the trough zone of the conveyor belt. The hinge joint or lacing contains coupling eyes which are fastened to the conveyor belt and at least one connecting pin, which passes through the intermeshing coupling eyes. The conveyor belt excels because of the minor wear in laterally flexing transition areas of the conveyor belt during passage through the trough zone. Moreover, it is simply constructed and can be manufactured in an uncomplicated way.

    Abstract: A method and tool (15) for securing V-shaped, open connector elements (14) o belt ends (1) in a manual operation use staples (8) that are driven by hammer blows applied to a punch held by the tool. Each connector element (14) has at least two shanks (11, 12) and at least one eye loop (13) interconnecting the shanks. The staples (8) are initially held in place for the driving by one shank (11) of the connector elements (14). The securing elements (8) first penetrate holes in one shank (11), then the belt end (1), and then holes in the shank (12), whereupon the free end pieces (53, 54) of the staples (8) are bent over in the tool provided with a die (29) for this purpose. The connecting elements (14) have downwardly projecting shanks (12) which extend initially away from the belt end. These shanks (12) are first pressed against the belt end (1) with a manually produced force increased with the aid of a tool mechanism providing a mechanical advantage.

A pressure bar is mounted on the base, generally forward of the knife, and includes a foot which protrudes laterally outwardly from the contact surface, generally above the cutting edge of the blade to guide the blade through the belt.
