  • Patent number: 5119363
Abstract: In an optical recording disk having groove-like guide tracks, a rotation index mark is provided to indicate a rotation starting point where the rotation index mark is constructed of a grooved-like phase structure. The rotation index mark may be formed in a track which is located separated from the information recording tracks, and may be detected optically without using a laser light beam. The rotation index mark is used to control the rotation of the disk as well as writing and reading operation of an optical disk recording/reproducing apparatus so that various information, such as video signals, can be accurately recorded and reproduced. In the case of recording digital signals, the guide tracks may be divided into a plurality of sector regions, and sector index marks corresponding to respective sector regions may also be formed together with the rotation index mark. Furthermore, an address index mark indicative of the position of track address region radially formed in the guide tracks may also be added.

  • Patent number: 5040027
Abstract: A printing apparatus is disclosed. A toner image is formed on an image carrier. A solvent supply device supplies a solvent to the toner image in a direction toward such a side that the toner image makes contact with an image bearing medium, the solvent lowering the viscosity of the powder image. A transfer device presses the image bearing medium against the toner image of which viscosity is lowered by the solvent, thereby transferring the toner image to the image bearing medium.

  • Patent number: 4888633
Abstract: A charge transfer device comprising a semiconductor body including a first conductivity type region and a second conductivity region which defines a charge transfer channel below a major surface of the semiconductor body. An insulative layer is provided on the major surface. A plurality of electrodes is attached to the insulative layer to produce potential wells in response to application of different potentials thereto with respect to a common electrode attached to the opposite surface of the semiconductor body. The n-type conductivity charge transfer channel includes a center section of lower impurity concentration and a peripheral section of higher impurity concentration which substantially eliminates the undesirable lateral field effect which would otherwise occur in an area adjacent to the boundary with the first conductivity region.

  • Patent number: 4689780
Abstract: A light beam emitted from a semiconductor laser passes through optical elements which include a condenser lens, a magnifier prism, and a focussing lens to obtain a substantially circular spot of light on a disc. The magnifier prism is constructed such that only the narrower cross-section of the elliptical light beam emitted from the condenser lens is magnified by the incidence surface of the magnifier prism to obtain a substantially circular light beam. The light beam thus obtained is reflected by the prism so that it becomes substantially perpendicular to the beam emitted from the condenser lens. After reflection by the disc, the light passes through a splitter prism. The splitter prism has a reflecting surface and a transmitting surface which spatially bisect the light beam reflected from the disc, a lens and other components. The bisected portions of the beam fall on a photodetector for focussing control and a photodetector for tracking control.

  • Patent number: 4648915
Abstract: A billet made of a polycrystalline Mn-Al-C alloy magnet which is obtained by plastically deforming a Mn-Al-C alloy for magnet such as by extrusion at a temperature of 530.degree. to 830.degree. C. is used for compressive working. When the billet is hollow, it is entirely or locally compressed along the axis of the hollow billet. On the other hand, when the billet is solid, an outer circumferential portion of the billet is compressed. By the compression, the anisotropic structure of the portion where compressed is changed into an anisotropic structure having a direction of easy magnetization in radial directions. The magnet obtained by the method is also disclosed. The magnet has a radially anisotropic structure or novel structures having two different types of anisotropies therein.

  • Patent number: 4545021
Abstract: Dynamic unbalance of a rigid rotor is corrected by machining the rotor in a direction parallel to the rotor axis of said rotor by subtracting or adding weights corresponding to a corrective weight in two planes for compensating initial unbalanced vectors corresponding to correction angle directions and corrective weights in the planes. Prior to effecting the machining, center of gravity position of a corrective machining weight is calculated for effecting corrective machining in the axial direction; the corrective machining corresponds to the corrective weight. The initial unbalanced vectors in the two planes are corrected into unbalanced vectors in new planes respectively including the centers of gravities of the corrective machining weights determined during the calculating step. Correction angular positions and corrective machining weights around the respective planes are obtained by repeating the calculating and correcting steps.

  • Patent number: 4499449
Abstract: A speed setting device for an industrial sewing machine comprises a lever pivotally mounted at one end thereof on a stationary wall and adapted to be pivotally moved in response to the foot pedal of the sewing machine. An arm is pivotally mounted at one end to the stationary wall and operatively engaged with the lever so that they rotate in unison about respective pivot points thereof. The pivot point of the second member is between the lever pivot point and the engagement point between the lever and arm. Thereby, the arm is rotated through an angle greater than the angle through which the lever is rotated in response to the angular displacement of the foot pedal. An angular displacement sensor detects the angular displacement of the arm to generate a speed setting signal.

  • Patent number: 4396929
Abstract: The substrate of a gallium nitride light-emitting diode is made rough at given positions on the surface thereof, or an insulating film strip pattern is attached on the surface of the substrate prior to growing an n-type conductive gallium nitride layer and a semi-insulating gallium nitride layer thereon. As a result, high conductivity regions are formed in the semi-insulating layer at positions corresponding to the rough surfaces or the insulating film strip pattern in such a manner that each of the high conductivity region extends from the n-type conductive layer to the upper surface of the semi-insulating layer so as to function as a conductor to be connected to an electrode. In the same manner similar high conductive regions are made along kerf portions in a diode wafer, preventing each diode chip from being damaged on cutting.

  • Patent number: 3953107
Abstract: An acousto-optic filter utilizing the far-off-axis anisotropic Bragg diffraction comprising an optically anisotropic crystal in which a light beam of incidence travels in a direction making a large angle with the crystalline axis and an ultrasonic wave travels in a predetermined direction. In the acousto-optic filter using a paratellurite crystal, the wavelength of the visible light is tuned by changing the frequency of the ultrasonic wave in a low frequency range below 100 MHz. The ultrasonic power required for driving the acousto-optic filter is about 1/500 that of the so far known acousto-optic filters. The bandwidth of the transmitted light can be changed from several angstroms to several hundred angstroms by selecting the incident angle of the light.

  • Patent number: 3953882
Abstract: In a system for cancelling time axis variations introduced into a frequency converted chrominance signal converted into a lower frequency range in the recording and reproduction of a color television signal with a small-size video tape recorder, in which system the cancellation of the time axis variations is effected by using a continuous reference signal obtained through an APC heterodyne system, the center frequency of oscillation of an APC oscillator is made n/m times the subcarrier frequency f.sub.s of the lower frequency converted chrominance signal (m and n being integers and n>m), and the reproduced frequency converted chrominance signal is heterodyned with a signal obtained by heterodyning a continuous signal obtained by dividing the frequency of the output signal of the oscillator by n/m in the presence of a steady reference signal at the same frequency as the standard color sub-carrier frequency to thereby obtain the cancellation of the time axis variations.
