  • Patent number: 6311063
Abstract: A method of and system for emulation of multiple subscriber profiles on a single telephone in a telecommunications network. An identified group contains more than one subscriber profile. The system is activated when a user selects a subscriber profile to be associated with the telephone being used. In response to the selection, the system determines whether the selected subscriber profile is within the group. If it is, the system associates the selected subscriber profile from the group with the telephone, such that the telephone emulates the selected subscriber profile. If the selected subscriber profile is not within the group, the subscriber profile associated with the telephone is unchanged.

  • Patent number: 6307836
Abstract: A system, method and computer program product are described, by which a user, through a control interface in a subscriber interface device, requests from network intelligence both transport network bandwidth and type of service line mode as part of call setup. An improved system by which requests to change access line mode and bandwidth are communicated over transmission facilities via D channels through local switch fabric to local or remote network intelligence is detailed. Connections over the transmission facilities, established between user B channels and B channels of transport bandwidth or between user B channels and the Stat Mux function, are described. An improved system is summarized, in which connections directly to transport bandwidth support point-to-point n B+D upstream and m B+D downstream service, and connections via stat mux allow connectionless traffic to share a portion of the transport bandwidth on an as needed basis.

  • Patent number: 6304640
Abstract: A method and system for creating and sending call disposition messages. When a calling card call is validated by the telephone network which issued the card, the card issuing network can request a call disposition message. In response to validation of the call, a billing detail record is generated and stored. When the call is completed. an operator service record is generated. The operator service record and its corresponding billing detail record are matched with each other, then merged to form a merged operator services record. The merged operator services record is processed to add pricing information. If the card issuing network had requested a call disposition message, the merged operator services record is sent to a gateway coupled to the card issuing network where it is reformatted to create a call disposition message. The call disposition message is then sent to the card issuing network.

  • Patent number: 6301336
Abstract: A method and apparatus for testing network elements within a communications system. A test is initiated at a data processing system located at a first site by the selection of one or more network elements for testing. In initiating the test, a communications link is established between the data processing system located at the first site and a network element located at a second site. The network element is monitored during testing of the network element using the communications link. The information is displayed on the data processing system in the form of a web page. Monitoring of the network element is paused from the data processing system in response to detecting an error originating from the network element. Monitoring of the network element is restarted from the data processing system in response to a correction of the error.

  • Patent number: 6298072
Abstract: System and method for synchronizing transaction data in real-time within a network environment. The system and method include and involve a plurality of authentication subsystems. Each authentication subsystem has a data storage subsystem and a processor. The processor is operative to receive a service request from a network user, and to authenticate the network user within the network environment in accordance with the service request. The service request causes a state stored within the data storage subsystem and related to the network user to change. The processor is further operative to transmit a synchronization request in real-time within the network environment, to receive another synchronization request from another authentication subsystem of the plurality of authentication subsystems, and to allow the processor to subsequently authenticate the network user within the network environment in accordance with the other synchronization request.

  • Patent number: 6294991
Abstract: To ensure that the distributed restoration process of a DRA provisioned network proceeds only in response to true failures, the present invention DRA network provisions to each of the ports of the nodes a timer mechanism for ascertaining whether an alarm is a genuine alarm. This is done by presetting the timer with an expiration period so that an alarm is validated as a failure only upon the expiration of the timer. When validated, the value of a counter is incremented. The value of the counter is reflective of the sum of validated alarms, and is compared against a preset threshold value. And it is only when the value of the summed validated alarms exceeds the preset threshold value would the DRA process be initiated. When a validated alarm ceases, the reverse process takes place. That is, the ending of the alarm has to be validated by another timer, which could be the same timer as used for validating an alarm.

  • Patent number: 6295275
Abstract: A restoral route generation process combines elements of a pre-plan methodology with a dynamic route generation methodology. The resulting hybrid approach quickly produces a restoral route in real time that has a minimal associated cost. The hybrid approach pre-generates sub-routes that are combined to produce a restoral route. The combining of the sub-routes takes place dynamically in response to a network failure. The hybrid approach may interactively operate to generate restoral routes for each trunk in the network that is affected by an outage.

  • Patent number: 6295146
Abstract: A system and method for sharing a spare channel among two or more optical ring networks that have a common span. A first optical cross-connect switch (OCCS) and a first OCCS controller are placed at one end of the span and a second OCCS and OCCS controller are placed at the other end of the span. The first OCCS and the first OCCS controller are coupled to a first ADM from each optical ring, and the second OCCS and the second OCCS controller are coupled to a second ADM from each optical ring. The first OCCS controller receives alarm indications from each ADM that it is coupled to that senses a ring failure. The second OCCS controller receives alarm indications from each ADM that it is coupled to that senses a ring failure.

  • Patent number: 6285475
Abstract: A method and system for detecting optical faults by tapping a portion of a data signal from along a fiber network link at an optical switching site or node. The tapped data signal is evaluated to determine whether an optical fault exists along the fiber link. In this way, optical faults such as a fiber failure, cable cut, or nodal LTE failure occurring within a network path, are isolated to a specific fiber span or link. Network switch controllers can then take full advantage of optical switches provided between spans in an all-optical core network to restore end-to-end path communication. In one embodiment, a presence detector simply evaluates the magnitude of the tapped signal to determine an optical fault. In a second embodiment, a protocol analyzer evaluates selected bits or fields of the protocol used in the tapped data signal to determine an optical fault. Finally, in a third embodiment, a sub-carrier modulation signal is added to the high rate data signal prior to transport over the link.
