Abstract: An asphalt recycling system and process are incorporated into an existing batch type asphalt plant. The existing asphalt plant has an aggregate dryer and air discharge ducts connected to a filtering system. A recycling dryer has input ducts connected to the existing aggregate dryer discharge ducts and output ducts connected from the recycling dryer back to the existing ducts to the filtering system. A recycle feeder bin for feeding reclaimed asphalt pavement to the recycle dryer is connected to the recycle dryer. A recycle booster burner is operatively connected to the recycle dryer through the input duct to the dryer for providing additional heat to the recycle dryer so that the waste heat from the existing aggregate dryer and the booster burner provide a predetermined heat to the recycle dryer for heating the asphalt material. A recycling storage bin or silo is connected to receive the heated recycled asphalt from the recycle dryer.

Abstract: A fuel burner for burning liquid and gas fuels having a short combustion volume stabilized by internal circulation of the hot combustion gases and air. A turbo blower supplies a portion of the combustion air to the combustion volume via a swirl plate which produces a rotational motion of the air and fuel. The rotational motion results in a region of less-than-atmospheric pressure in the center portion of the combustion volume which causes recirculation of gases back toward the burner and a stabilization zone near the burner nozzle. Aspiration of external air into the combustion volume is controlled by a short stabilization cone and the resulting combustion volume is small, eliminating the necessity for refractory lined ignition ports and combustion chambers.

Abstract: A burner and associated rotating drum dryer for drying loose material, such as aggregates, is provided in which the burner directs a flame into the middle of the dryer drum, which has flights therein which lift the loose material in the rotating drum and drop it to either side of the center of the flame while preventing its falling through the center. A plurality of flights are mounted around the drum and each captures loose material as it passes through the loose material on the bottom of the drum and drops the material in a pattern in the drum for more rapid drying of the material. The material is spread through the open space of the drum except for that portion in the middle of the flame so as not to interfere with complete combustion.
