  • Patent number: 5840194
Abstract: The present invention provides a process for treating arsenic-containing waste water, comprising adding an oxidizing agent, if necessary, to arsenic-containing waste water to oxidize trivalent arsenic in the waste water into pentavalent arsenic; adding a calcium compound to adjust the pH to 12 or higher; separating it into solid and liquid (first solid/liquid separation); calcining the resulting sludge, while adding a ferric salt to the treated solution to adjust the pH to 6-9 after the solid/liquid separation; and separating it into solid and liquid (second solid/liquid separation). According to the present invention, it is possible to remove arsenic from waste water efficiently to yield treated water satisfying various tolerance limits under various regulations, while the arsenic-containing sludge separated from the waste water can become harmless in subsequent continuous steps.

  • Patent number: 5829367
Abstract: A burner for combustion of a pulverized coal mixture having two kinds of rich and lean concentration has a height of a burner panel reduced and the overall burner simplified. A rich/lean separator (10, 20, 30) is provided within a pulverized coal conduit (2) so that a high concentration mixture is formed in an outer peripheral portion and a low concentration mixture is formed in a central portion within a single pulverized coal conduit. Thus, a rich mixture burner and a lean mixture burner, which have been conventionally provided separately, may be formed into a single burner. Recirculation of air is accelerated by a cutaway slit (20d, 30d) provided in a central portion of the rich/lean separator to make the air flow rate distribution uniform in a pulverized coal nozzle. Also, a duct and an air blow box for the combustion air to be supplied to the pulverized coal flame are not integrally formed continuous in the height direction, but are divided into a plurality of discontinuous units.

  • Patent number: 5798590
Abstract: The present invention provides a multi-degree-of-freedom electric motor having a spherical rotor which is able to obtain a uniform torque and which achieves a fine and smooth rotational control. A plurality of projections consisting of magnetic material are disposed on surface of spherical rotor and a spherical stator is disposed with a predetermined space therefrom. Electromagnets are buried in the surface of the stator with predetermined intervals. The spherical rotor is caused to float in a non-contact state by gas jetted from spherical static pressure bearing via gas cylinder and pressure pipe. By the controller of the present invention, electromagnets of the stator are excited to a desired position in .alpha./.beta./.gamma. directions of orthogonal coordinates, and upon action with the projections, the spherical rotor is rotated to the position.
