Abstract: Polycarbonate granules are produced by adding a solution of polycarbonate in an organic solvent to a suspension composed of water, an anti-solvent for polycarbonate and polycarbonate powder with stirring while evaporating and removing the organic solvent for polycarbonate added to the suspension. The procedure may be effected in the presence of a stabilizing agent for polycarbonate. The resulting polycarbonate granules are easy in handling, and free from fine powder, have high bulk density, large particle size and uniform quality, and can be directly molded.
Abstract: A process is provided for the purification of methacrylic acid. The process can easily remove dibasic acids and aldehydes containing in trace amounts as impurities. According to the process, crude methacrylic acid obtained as an aqueous solution by vapor-phase catalytic oxidation of isobutylene, tertiary butanol, methacrolein or isobutyl aldehyde is treated with at least one compound selected from the group consisting of m-aminophenol, m-phenylenediamine, 2,4-diaminotoluene and 2,4-diamino-diphenylamine, followed by distillation, optionally, in the presence of a p-phenylene diamine.
Abstract: A method for measuring internal defects of a specimen, comprising the steps of allowing a finely focused laser beam to be incident into a specimen from its surface and observing the scattered light of the said laser beam from inside the said specimen from the surface of the specimen and in a different direction to the optical axis of incidence of the laser beam.
Abstract: Optical urethane resins according to the present invention are each obtained by reacting an active hydrogen compound with an isocyanate compound containing as a stabilizer a phenolic compound. Owing to their low yellowness, high light transmittance and optical-strain-free quality, these resins are useful as optical materials for plastic lenses or the like which are required to be colorless, transparent and uniform.
