Patents Assigned to Mobile Oil Corporation
  • Patent number: 4790928
Abstract: The acidity of a zeolite catalyst is reduced by calcination in an essentially water-free atmosphere at temperatures above 700.degree. C., preferably from 725.degree. to 800.degree. C., to reduce the alpha value to less than about 10 percent of its original value. The low acidity catalysts produced in this way may be used for conversions requiring low acidity, shape selective catalysis, including dewaxing. The calcined, low acidity catalysts exhibit improved dewaxing activity.

  • Patent number: 4597443
Abstract: In a thermal method for the recovery of oil from a subterranean, viscous oil-containing formation, a predetermined amount of steam in an amount not greater than 1.0 pore volume and an injection rate of 4 to 7 barrels of steam (cold water equivalent) per day per acre-foot of formation is injected into the formation via an injection well and oil is produced from the formation via a production well. The injection well is then shut-in for a variable time to allow the injected steam to dissipate its heat throughout the formation and reduce oil viscosity while continuing production of oil. Thereafter, a predetermined amount of hot water or low quality steam in an amount not greater than 1.0 pore volume is injected into the formation with continued production but avoiding steam breakthrough. Thereafter, production is continued until there is an unfavorable amount of water or steam in the fluids recovered.

  • Patent number: 4188282
Abstract: Benzene, toluene and xylene are prepared from mixtures of single ring alkyl aromatic compounds of eight or more carbon atoms concurrently with isomerization of xylenes by mixing xylenes from which at least one isomer has been separated with a mixture of alkyl benzenes of eight and more carbon atoms, e.g. heavy reformate, and contacting that mixture at 800.degree. to 1000.degree. F. with a zeolite catalyst of reduced activity such as zeolite ZSM-5 having a silica to alumina ratio of at least 200.

  • Patent number: 4132943
Abstract: A radar transmitter directs a beam of microwve energy at a first frequency through the atmosphere. A gas seep in the atmosphere irradiated by the beam of microwave energy is excited to emit microwave energy at a second frequency characteristic of the particular species of gas. A radar receiver is tuned to produce video signals representative of the microwave energy at the second frequency. An amplitude discriminator measures the amplitudes of the video signals during each radar sweep as an indication of gas concentration in the seeps and counts the number of video signals during each radar seep as an indication of the size of the seeps.

  • Patent number: 4090981
Abstract: A catalyst particularly applicable for the selective production of para dialkyl substituted benzenes is provided comprising a porous crystalline aluminosilicate zeolite which has undergone modification by deposition thereon of a coating of silica extensively covering, and residing substantially exclusively on the external surface thereof as a result of contact with a silicone compound of a molecular size incapable of entering the pores of the zeolite and subsequent heating in an oxygen-containing atmosphere to a temperature in excess of 300.degree. C. but below a temperature at which crystallinity of the zeolite is adversely affected at a rate such that the silicone compound does not volatilize prior to undergoing oxidation to silica.

  • Patent number: 4086095
Abstract: Improved zinc-containing coating compositions are useful to protect ferrous-containing surfaces. They are particularly useful and highly protective against red rust. The compositions with higher zinc content can be used as very thin coatings. Those having lower zinc content are used to provide preferably a thicker coating. The compositions contain: metallic zinc in particulate form, e.g., zinc dust or zinc flake; a polyol silicate; a chromate composition selected from strontium chromate, calcium chromate, barium chromate, lead chromate plus lead sulfate (chrome yellow & primrose) and a mixture of zinc chromate and zinc oxide or hydroxide; and a liquid organic vehicle. When zinc dust is used as the particulate zinc, finely divided inert extenders, such as iron phosphide, may be incorporated in the composition; in such composition the zinc content of the combination can be lower without impairing the protective action provided by a coating of the composition.
