Abstract: This invention relates to a continuous process for the preparation of a metal-organic framework comprising a hydrophobic compound. The process comprises the steps of: (a) providing a first component comprising either (i) a metal-organic framework, or (ii) a first reactant which includes at least one metal in ionic form and a second reactant which includes at least one ligand capable of associating with the metal in ionic form in order to form a metal-organic framework. (b) providing a hydrophobic compound, and (c) mixing the first component and the hydrophobic compound in order to form the metal-organic framework comprising the hydrophobic compound. The invention also relates to the use of a hydrophobic polymer, a silane compound and/or a siloxane compound to improve the water stability of a metal-organic framework.

Abstract: A process for the preparation of a shaped MOF, the process comprising: providing a first reactant comprising at least one metal in ionic form and a second reactant comprising at least one organic ligand capable of associating with said metal in ionic form, and optionally a solvent; allowing the first and second reactants to react to form a MOF; and forming a shaped body directly from the mixture of step b) using an extruder or continuous kneader; wherein the initial ratio of the at least one metal in ionic form to the at least one organic ligand is controlled such that shaped bodies having a minimum defined crush strength are formed without the use of an external binder or lubricant.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a process for preparing a magnesium formate based metal-organic framework. The process comprises (a) combining magnesium or magnesium oxide with formic acid; (b) heating the reaction mixture of step (a) at a temperature of between 70° C. and 200° C.; (c) combining formic acid with the reaction mixture of step (b); and (d) heating the reaction mixture of step (c) at a temperature of between 70° C. and 200° C. Steps (c) and (d) may be heated up to 5 times.
