Abstract: Disclosed are methods for extracting and using information about an entity that has a presence in a number of information domains. The entity has separate identifiers in each of several domains. Various techniques are described that bind together the identifiers of the entity across the domains. The results of the binding are provided to an interested party that can review information extracted about the entity's behavior in the multiple domains. The interested party is not given access to information that would compromise the confidentiality of the entity. A trusted broker has access to information about the behavior of the entity in the several domains. The broker analyzes that information and provides the analysis to the interested party, again without compromising the confidentiality of the entity. An “incentivizer” works with the broker to extract from the domains information that would be useful in binding together the different identifiers of the entity.

Abstract: Systems and methods for managing power consumption on a trunked network include listening to a control channel on a trunked system with a trunked pager, and receiving a voice channel assignment. The trunked pager listens for voice traffic on the assigned voice channel while in a standby mode. Voice traffic is detected and the trunked pager determines whether the voice traffic is for a communication group that includes the trunked pager. If so, the trunked pager unmutes and listens to the voice traffic. Upon termination of the voice traffic, the trunked pager returns to the control channel to listen for a different voice channel assignment. Otherwise, the trunked pager directly returns to the control channel to listen for a different voice channel assignment.

The method includes monitoring a power level of the first wireless device; receiving, at the first wireless device, a first signal from the base unit if a power level of the first wireless device has not reached a threshold level; transmitting wirelessly a second signal, derived from the first signal, from said first wireless device to the second wireless device if a power level of the first wireless device has not reached the threshold level; receiving, at the second wireless device, the first signal from the base unit if the power level of the first wireless device reaches the threshold level; and transmitting wirelessly a third signal, derived from the first signal, from the second wireless device to the first wireless device if the power level of the first wireless device reaches the threshold level.

Abstract: A server performs a method for determining a communication target and facilitating communications with the target based on an object descriptor. The method includes the server receiving, from a requestor in a communication system, an object descriptor for an object, a description of a relationship between the object and a target in the communication system, and a request for a communication action with the target. The server then determines the target using the object descriptor and the relationship between the object and the target and facilitates the communication action with the target.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for presence state determination at an access point of a station determines whether a station associated with the access point is responsive to the access point to indicate the station is “present” or “not present”. The access point informs a presence server when the station's presence state changes. The presence server does not therefore need to rely on presence handshaking between the presence server and the station.

Abstract: A method for tuning a filter is provided. The amplitude of a first signal (I1) is compared with the amplitude of a comparison signal. The first signal is generated with a first filter, which receives a first input signal, and there is a phase difference between the first signal (I1) and the comparison signal. A tuning signal is then generated based on differences between the amplitudes of the first signal (I1) and the comparison signal. The tuning signal compensates for any phase and/or amplitude offset in the first signal (I1).

Abstract: A method and apparatus for performing time synchronization is provided. The method/apparatus includes, at a radio subsystem: receiving, from a digital subsystem, a first signal via the link, where the link not dedicated to timing synchronization; determining a time difference between the first signal and a second signal; converting the time difference to a time error, sending, via the link, the time error or time difference to the digital subsystem. The method further includes, at the digital subsystem, inputting the time error, received from the radio subsystem, to a phased locked loop (PLL) in order to adjust an oscillator frequency so as to reduce the amount of the time error and thus synchronizing the radio access network with the second signal received at the radio subsystem, without the need for an additional connection between the digital and radio subsystems.

Abstract: Methods and systems are provided for improving a firewall implemented at a WLAN infrastructure device (WID). The WID includes a stateful firewall that implements firewall rules based on an ESSID of the WID to specify whether traffic is allowed to or from the ESSID. For example, in one implementation of such a firewall rule, packets that are required to be sent out on all wired ports can be blocked from being flooded out on WLANs (e.g., the packet is allowed to pass only to the wired ports). A method and system are provided for preventing a malicious wireless client device (WCD) that is transmitting undesirable traffic from using RF resources by deauthenticating the malicious WCD to remove it from the WLAN and blacklisting it to prevent it from rejoining the WLAN for a time period. Method and systems are also provided for either “on-demand” and/or predicatively communicating state information regarding an existing firewall session.

Abstract: Disclosed is a security tag that contains two parts. The contact (or lack thereof) of the two parts defines the operational state of the security tag. In one state, the security tag responds when a central control station runs a wireless security scan. In the other state, the tag does not respond. Thus the wireless security scan reveals the tag's operational state. If, for example, one part of the tag is affixed to a window, and the other part affixed to a frame of the window, then the two parts can be arranged so that they are in contact when the window is closed but not in contact when the window is open. A wireless scan of the tag thus reveals whether or not the window is open. In one embodiment, one part of the security tag includes an RFID circuit, and the other part includes an antenna.
