  • Patent number: 8872864
Abstract: A control unit performs calibration when a determining unit determines that an absence condition of an operator is satisfied. Calibration is performed to a whole or part of brightness, a white point (gain), gamma (gradation), and primary colors (red, blue, and green colors). The control unit stores a correction amount by calibration in a storage unit, measures the (corrected) calibrated brightness or color tone by using an optical sensor, and stores the measured final measurement result in the storage unit as a corrected measurement value. After performing calibration or when the determining unit determines that a presence condition of the operator is satisfied, a profile generating unit generates color space information.

  • Patent number: 8654443
Abstract: The stereoscopic image display apparatus of this invention includes an upper light source unit 29 having a pair of light sources 33 and 35 and a lower light source unit, which are arranged between a reflection unit 17 with an elliptical mirror 15 having one focus f1 on the side of a reflecting surface 19, and a transmission type liquid crystal display panel 5. Thus, the apparatus has a reduced width. Moreover, the elliptical mirror 15 is the stationary type, and the reflecting surface 19 employed is shaped symmetrical in plan view. This allows the respective light sources to use the common elliptical mirror 15. Therefore, the stereoscopic image display apparatus realizes a reduction in size and a reduction in apparatus cost.

  • Patent number: 8648794
Abstract: In a screen light computation device, a first polarizing filter (93) blocks P waves reflected by a reflective surface, and screen light; the reflected light sensor (95) receives S waves; a second polarizing filter (83) allows the screen light to pass while blocking the S waves; and a screen light sensor (85), being set at Brewster's angle, where the P waves is not received, still receives some leakage P waves. A screen light extraction computation (LUT; not shown) stores a correlation between the detection value by the reflected light sensor 95 and the detection value by the screen light sensor 85. The LUT is queried, a value of only the screen light that does not include reflected light is computed, and the screen light that does not include ambient light (reflected light) reflected in a display screen of the monitor is detected without turning off a backlight of a monitor.

  • Publication number: 20130182089
Abstract: The invention can provide a stereoscopic image display device, which achieves advantages of both a “glasses” device and a “naked-eye” device, while having a small size. When a right-eye image is displayed, as light blocking region forms on the left side of the center line, and when a left-eye image is displayed, a light blocking region forms on the right side of the center line. When the viewer is located in the regions, the right eye views the right-eye image, and the left eye views the left-eye image. Thus, even when the viewer faces stereoscopic display device with naked eyes, the viewer can view the stereoscopic image as long as the eyes of the viewer are located in the light blocking regions. The right and left images are mixed in the region other than the light blocking regions. However, multiple viewers can view the stereoscopic image when wearing the glasses.

  • Patent number: 8360581
Abstract: This invention provides a stereoscopic image display system that allows a plurality of experiencing persons to visually recognize stereoscopic images by their naked eyes at one time. In correspondence with a distance between eyes of an experiencing person, a plurality of projectors and a plurality of half mirrors are arranged around a periphery of a retroreflective sheet placed horizontally. The respective projectors receive parallax images of an object as a display target which are taken along a circumferential direction of the object. Image light beams (left and right parallax images) emitted from the adjacent two projectors are reflected from the half mirrors and then enter the retroreflective sheet. The two incident image light beams are reflected from the retroreflective sheet in directions of incidence thereof, respectively. The two reflected light beams pass through the half mirrors and then separately enter the right and left eyes of the experiencing person.

  • Patent number: 8305397
Abstract: A noise removing filter removes noise from an input image and an edge component extracting unit extracts edge components. The edge components are extracted by calculating a difference between the input image and a smoothed image, which is obtained by smoothing the input image in a smoothed image generating portion. An edge component comparing unit compares the extracted edge components with a threshold value and a sum calculating unit calculates the sum of the edge components greater than the threshold value. A control circuit determines the enhancement degree of the edges based on the sum and averaged luminance of the input image calculated by an average luminance calculating unit. An enhancement degree adjustment unit adjusts the determined enhancement degree, and an edge component enhancement unit enhances the edge components based on this enhancement degree and adds it to the input image to perform edge enhancement processing.

  • Patent number: 8125583
Abstract: A stereoscopic image display apparatus of this invention includes a half mirror having a ½ wavelength plate and a half mirror layer. Therefore, a direction of polarization of light incident on a surface of a transmission side of the half mirror can be rotated and emitted. This can be manufactured at lower manufacturing cost than a construction having the ½ wavelength plate on the front display plane of one of the two image display devices with linear polarization plates having the same polarizing direction, or preparing two image display devices with linear polarization plates having different polarizing directions. A high-quality stereoscopic image can be observed by adjusting the orders and positions of sub-pixel colors of the two image display devices at the time of composition and display through the half mirror.

Abstract: A luminance detected by a built-in photosensor and a luminance of light emitted from a backlight through a liquid crystal panel are measured in a plurality of states where the backlight has a different luminance, and are preliminarily stored in a storage unit. Moreover, a luminance of light emitted through the liquid crystal panel in each input level when the maximum luminance of light emitted through the liquid crystal panel is a predetermined value is measured and is preliminarily stored in the storage unit. The maximum luminance of light emitted through the liquid crystal panel is then accepted, the luminance of the backlight is controlled, the luminance in each input level and an ideal luminance in each gray level are calculated, and an input level which gives a luminance substantially equal to the ideal luminance in each gray level is obtained to update an LUT.

Abstract: A two-dimensional monochrome bit face display has a luminance resolution that is equal to or higher than that of a CRT monitor. In one implementation, a two-dimensional monochrome bit face display has a bit face in which each pixel is constituted by m sub-pixels and neutral density filters mounted on the m sub-pixels of a respective pixel have light transmittances proportional to values ½n where n is an integer. In another implementation, mask filters are mounted on the m sub-pixels and have windows with light transmittances that are proportional to values ½n. Alternatively, areas of the m sub-pixels are set in the same proportion. The luminance of each sub-pixel is electronically controlled to improve the luminance resolution of the bit face display.
