Abstract: A hub attachment for a rotating drive shaft of a hand-held, portable string cutter for grass and weeds having a centrally located cylindrical anchor lug for a nylon cutting line which is held in a retainer line anchor that is in turn positioned in the semi-cylindrical cavity of the hub attachment. The retainer line anchor is provided with a latching tab that can be rotated from an unlatched position to a position in which the tab is removably attached to the hub.
Abstract: A cylindrical motor driven brush for a vacuum cleaner or the like having a hollow outer cylinder and a plastic bristle tube assembly for insertion in the outer cylindrical tube. The insert tube is provided with a helical mounting strip with brush bristles thereon which is inserted through a correspondingly shaped slot in said outer cylindrical tube.
Abstract: A high speed floor burnishing machine in which fine particles generated by the burnishing action are confined, having a burnishing disc which is completely enclosed in a housing. The housing has a peripheral domed flange terminating in a sponge rubber skirt in contact with the floor, and is mounted to float in response to unevenness in the floor level. The weight of the housing compresses the skirt to the extent of 0.19 to 0.25 pounds per linear inch of skirt circumference to seal the enclosure. In one form of the invention the housing floats on a pair of sleeves surrounding bolts screwed into the base of the machine. In another form the housing is suspended from a flexible diaphragm surrounding the drive shaft.

Abstract: An electric vacuum cleaner has a floor engaging unit, a generally vertically extending handle assembly pivotally affixed to the rear of the floor engaging unit, and a porous bag assembly mounted to the front of the handle assembly. The handle assembly is hollow to direct dust-laden air from the floor engaging unit to the bag assembly. A bottom plate, under the brush roll, has notches at its edges to enhance edge cleaning, and front wheels for the cleaner. Ridges are provided in the floor engaging unit to prevent improper assembly of the drive belt. The handle assembly is resiliently biased upwardly, and a release is provided thereon to enable relaxation of forces on the porous bag of the porous bag assembly, to facilitate changing of the bag.
Abstract: An electric vacuum cleaner has a generally opaque housing enclosing a bruch roller rotatable about a horizontal axis, a motor, and a belt or the like extending from the motor to a pulley on or affixed to the brush roller, for driving the brush roller. A transparent window is provided in the top of the housing and aligned with the belt, and highly contrasting markings are provided on the belt, thereby to enable an operator to determine, viewing the belt through the window, the moving condition of the belt.
Abstract: A suction cleaner capable of rapid conversion for either on-the-floor or above-the-floor cleaning, is disclosed. The cleaner includes an elongated housing arranged in a generally upright manner and having an elongated, upwardly extending handle at the rear side thereof. A floor nozzle is connected to the lower end of the housing so that the latter "floats" on the surface of a rug or carpet being cleaned. A suction control valve assembly is mounted in a cavity in the rear of the housing so as to be easily removable therefrom. The valve assembly is connected to conduit means extending between a subatmospheric pressure filtering chamber in the housing and the floor nozzle. An auxiliary suction inlet communicates with the filtering chamber, upstream from the suction valve assembly, and one end of an auxiliary suction hose is permanently connected to the auxiliary inlet.

Abstract: A microwave baking utensil comprises a unitary body of a porous ceramic material having a cooking surface on its upper side, and pattern of a compound of a Group III, IV or V material ion implanted in its lower support surface. The ion implanted material has an n-type impurity, and a p-type impurity therein.

Abstract: A shock mounting assembly has a grommet for holding a plate assembled on a weld stud. The grommet is held on the stud by a unitary plastic nut having a sleeve portion extending through the grommet, a central flange portion extending over the end of the grommet and a shaped end portion, such as a hex head. Initially the nut is not provided with threads, the threads being formed on the inner surface of the sleeve portion by being rotated on the stud during assembly.
Abstract: A brush-beater assembly for a vacuum cleaner comprises a hollow cylinder having outwardly extending projections formed in the material thereof, and slots diametrically opposed to the projections for receiving brush assemblies. The projections may be formed pneumatically or hydraulically in the cylinder, during the production thereof. An additional projection is provided in front of the brush assemblies.
Abstract: A vacuum cleaner has an elongated porous outer bag for holding a filter bag over an air outlet. A hanger within the outer bag is positioned to suspend the outer bag from the vacuum cleaner, as well as to hold a pocket within the outer bag, so that spare filter bags may be held within the porous outer bag.
