    Abstract: A feedback type air-fuel ratio control system controls the air-fuel ratio of air-fuel mixture fed to an internal combustion engine in accordance with an information signal issued from a first oxygen sensor installed in an exhaust line of the engine. The exhaust line has a catalytic converter at a position downstream of the first oxygen sensor. There is further provided a system in the control system, which detects deterioration of the first oxygen sensor. The system comprises a computer and a second oxygen sensor of delayed response type installed in the exhaust line at a position upstream of the converter. The computer defines higher and lower slice levels with respect to the output of the second oxygen sensor and compares the output of the second oxygen sensor with the higher and lower slice levels.

A basic consumption estimate is derived based on sensor inputs which are indicative of the amount of work a servo is producing and increased by increasing the level based on the lateral acceleration level. The amount by which the basic estimate is boosted is variable with vehicle speed and/or lateral acceleration level.

    Abstract: An actively controlled suspension system for automotive vehicles includes a lateral acceleration sensor and a controller for suppressing rolling of the vehicle. The controller controls a distribution ratio of anti-roll moment or lateral load shift between a driven wheel and a non-driven wheel so as to enhance steering characteristics of the vehicle. The controller changes the distribution ratio depending on both the lateral acceleration and the wheel speed difference between the driven wheel speed and the non-driven wheel speed such that the distribution ratio at a non-driven wheel side of suspension system is increased from a designated reference value according to the increase in the wheel speed difference and a rate of change in the distribution ratio is attenuated towards the designated reference value according to the increase in the lateral acceleration.

A decision is made based on this output torque variation whether or not the power-off 1-2 upshift has been effected in a predetermined appropriate manner, and a timing at which an on-coming friction device to be engaged during the power-off upshift is corrected based on the decision made. Thus, the shift operation during the next occurrence of a power-off upshift of the same type is effected in the appropriate manner.

    Abstract: A piezo-actuator's displacement magnifying mechanism includes a first cylinder and a second cylinder which is smaller in diameter than the first cylinder and communicates with the same. A plunger is slidably mounted in the first cylinder. The plunger is moved by a piezo-actuator in the first cylinder when a predetermined voltage is applied to the piezo-actuator to cause the same to expand and contract. A piston is slidably mounted in the second cylinder. A reservoir is communicating with the first cylinder. A hydraulic fluid is received in the first and the second cylinder and the reservoir. The hydraulic fluid is variable in viscosity in response to electric fields to which the fluid is subjected. A fluid passage is provided between the first cylinder and the reservoir for compensating for thermal expansion/contraction of the fluid. An electrode is provided for subjecting the hydraulic fluid to electric fields in the passage according to an instruction for applying the voltage to the piezo-actuator.

    Abstract: An acceleration sensor includes a tubular bobbin only one end of which is fixed to a body whereas the other end is movable relative to the body axially of the bobbin. Supported on the body are magnets for attracting a magnetic member, mounted within the bobbin, to a reference position. A detection member is mounted around the bobbin so as to detect a displacement of the magnetic member from the reference position. A gel can be filled in a receiving space of the body in which the bobbin is received. The body can be of a tubular shape, with covers fixedly secured respectively to opposite ends of the body, in which case opposite ends of the bobbin are disposed in opposed, spaced relation to inner sides of the covers, respectively. The body can be received in a housing, and a circuit board can be received in an auxiliary receiving space in the housing.

    Abstract: A bearing structure for an output shaft of an automatic transaxle employs a ball bearing, radial needle bearing and a thrust needle bearing in combination. The ball bearing and the radial needle bearing radially support the output shaft.     Abstract: The supercharge pressure and the pressure differential which develops between the supercharge pressure and the exhaust gas pressure upstream of a turbocharger turbine are monitored. In the event that the supercharge pressure is below a target level which is determined to optimal for the instant set of operating conditions, a first injection reduction amount is calculated. To allow for the effect of very sudden accelerations wherein the pressure differential tends to become large and the charging efficiency of the engine tends to reduce, a second reduction amount is calculated based on the difference between the actual differential and a target value for the instant set of operating conditions. The second reduction amount is also subtracted from the injection volume which is calculated based on the engine speed and a signal which is indicative of the power demand on the engine (the accelerator pedal depression degree).
