    Abstract: An ultrasonic ground speedometer utilizing Doppler effect comprises an ultrasonic transmitter for outputting an ultrasonic wave at a predetermined angle against a road surface, an ultrasonic receiver for receiving a reflected ultrasonic wave caused by reflection of the output ultrasonic wave from a road surface, an arithmetic circuit for deriving ground speed from Doppler shift between the output ultrasonic wave and the reflected ultrasonic wave. The ultrasonic ground speedometer also includes an output frequency control circuit for controlling the output ultrasonic wave frequency in such a manner as to keep the reflected ultrasonic wave frequency to a constant value in response to changes in ground speed. An amplification degree control circuit is also included for controlling the amplitude of the output ultrasonic wave to keep a substantially constant output intensity of the output ultrasonic wave over an output ultrasonic wave frequency range controlled by the output frequency control circuit.

    Abstract: A semiconductor device comprises a semiconductor base having an aperture to form a first cantilever having a weight integral therewith, a second cantilever and a third cantilever. The second and third cantilevers are formed on the opposite sides of the first cantilever. The semiconductor device also comprises first and second piezo resistors formed in the first cantilevers, a third piezo resistor formed in the second cantilever, and a fourth piezo resistor formed in the third cantilever. The first, second, third and fourth piezo resistors are connected in a four-arm bridge circuit having a first pair of opposite arms comprised of the first and second piezo resistors, respectively, and a second pair of opposite arms comprised of the third and fourth piezo resistors, respectively, to compensate the first and second piezo resistors for temperature.

    Abstract: An improved fuel tank apparatus for use in a vehicle having a filler lid provided in a body of the vehicle includes a fuel tank in which fuel is to be stored, a filler tube connected to the fuel tank for introducing fuel into the fuel tank, a filler cap removably attached to an inlet port of the filler tube, a canister for absorbing and treating evaporated fuel generated in the fuel tank, an evaporation tube connected between the fuel tank and the canister, a check valve provided in the evaporation tube for releasing the evaporated fuel to the canister when pressure inside the fuel tank exceeds a predetermined level due to evaporation of the fuel in the fuel tank, and a mechanism for releasing the evaporated fuel which remains within the fuel tank due to the pressure inside the fuel tank being less than the predetermined level into the canister. The releasing mechanism is operated only when the filler lid is opened under the condition that the filler cap if closed.

    Abstract: A system and method for controlling engine output applicable to an automotive vehicle are disclosed in which when an engine output control condition is not satisfied and a predetermined follow-up control release condition is not satisfied, a second throttle valve additionally installed in series with a first throttle valve associated with an accelerator is controlled so as to follow up the angular displacement (opening angle) of the first throttle valve. Therefore, a sticking of the second throttle valve due to adhering or freezing of rust or foreign matters thereonto can be prevented. In addition, the follow-up control of the second throttle valve permits the second throttle valve to be displaced in a low opening angle required for the engine output reduction control in a short period of time. Thus, a responsive characteristic of reducing a slip rate on drive wheels can be improved. When the follow-up throttle valve is returned toward its fully open position.

    Abstract: A throttle is disposed in the intake port per cylinder. At idle, the throttles are closed. The pressure in the intake port per cylinder increases during the intake valve closed period due to flow admitted to the intake port downstream of the throttle until it recovers to ambient before the valve overlap period. The flow rate is controlled individually per cylinder such that it is higher during the intake valve closed period than it is during the intake valve opened period. This allows the increased valve overlap to be used without increasing the residual mass fraction in the cylinder. As a result, the stability engine operation at idle and part load range is improved.

If the received signal is high level, information indicated by the received signal is displayed on both segments of the display unit, while if it is low level, indications on one of the display segments is interrupted and information indicated by the received low level signal is display on the interrupted display segment.

This system includes generally a rotational speed sensor for detecting rotational speeds of front and rear wheels to provide a difference in rotational speeds between the front and the rear wheels, an angle sensor for sensing a steered angle of a steering wheel, a steering controller for determining a rear wheel target steering angle, and an actuator for steering the rear wheels by the rear wheel target steering angle. The steering controller calculates a component of a difference in rotational speeds between the front and rear wheels caused by a difference in turning tracks therebetween and compensates for this component by the difference derived by the rotational speed sensor to provide a correction value for the rotational speeds between the front and rear wheels caused by acceleration during turning as a correction for a rear wheel steering angle.

    Abstract: A joining structure of an automotive vehicle power plant including a transmission and a torque converter. Each fastening bolt is disposed through the bolt holes which are respectively formed in the flanges of the transmission housing and the torque converter casing. A plurality of depressions are formed at the joining surface of the transmission housing flange in such a manner that each bolt hole merges in the depression, so that projected and depressed parts are formed in the joining surface.
