  • Patent number: 7133382
Abstract: A method for defining measurement gaps and a wireless telecommunications system comprising at least one base station and at least one wireless terminal. In the data transfer between these two, measurement gaps are generated with one of the following measurement gap generation methods: puncturing the data being transmitted, halving the spreading factor, or buffering the data being transmitted onto higher protocol layers. In the method, measurement pattern parameters that set the locations of the gaps used for measurements in the time-slot frames and determine the measurement gap generation method are defined for the terminal and transmitted to the terminal through the base station. A uniform measurement gap is defined for the terminal, which comprises time-slots from two different time-slot frames so that the gaps in different time-slot frames are generated with a different measurement gap generation method.

  • Patent number: 7126966
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for identifying base stations of a time division cellular network in a mobile station. An object of the invention is to speed up the identification of new base stations. In accordance with the invention frame timing difference data for the neighbor base stations (301) and/or the broadcast control channel time slot data for the neighbor base stations are transmitted from the serving base station to the mobile station; reception times for the neighbor base stations' system data are determined in the mobile station on the basis of said frame timing differences and/or the broadcast control channel time slot data (302) and system data are read and neighbor base stations are identified (303). The invention is also directed to a mobile station applying the method.

  • Patent number: 7123595
Abstract: For transferring packets between a wireless data transfer device and a mobile communication network, temporary block flows are formed, and information is transferred in these block flows in one or more packet data traffic channels either in the first direction from the mobile communication network to the wireless data transfer device or in the second direction from the wireless data transfer device to the mobile communication network. In the method, information about the end of the block flow is set in a packet to be transmitted in a block flow when data transfer has stopped. When the transfer of packets in the first direction has stopped, at least one enquiry message is also sent from the mobile communication network to the wireless data transfer device.

  • Patent number: 7124439
Abstract: A mobile communications device is adapted to use applications resident on a remote network server. The display of the mobile device is divided into static and dynamic display zones. Inquiries originating externally from the mobile device are identified and restrictively routed only to the dynamic display. Internally generated inquiries trigger a indicator symbol within the static display. In this manner bogus requests for confidential identifiers may be avoided.

  • Patent number: 7065156
Abstract: A method and apparatus for providing hopped delay diversity for multiple antenna transmissions. In the method and apparatus, an input symbol stream is offset in time by M symbol periods to generate or offset symbol stream. The offset input stream may be offset so as to lead or lag the original input symbol stream. The original input symbol stream is then transmitted on a first set of N antennas and the offset input symbol stream is transmitted on a second set of N antennas, with transmit diversity techniques applied to the transmissions from the first and second set of N antennas.

  • Patent number: RE39375
Abstract: The invention relates to a system for transmitting packet data in the air interface of a digital cellular system based on TDMA, Time Division Multiple Access. The mobile terminated logical channels comprise information channels designated for transmitting information and control channels, which can be a fast paging (FP) channel and an acknowledgement (A) channel. The mobile originated logical channels comprise information channels designated for transmitting information and a reservation (R) channel, whereon the mobile station requests the system to reserve a connection for transmitting packet data. According to the invention, for the TDMA frames there is allocated a variable number of time slots for packet transmission, taking into account the symmetricity/asymmetricity of the packet transmission, as well as the total packet transmission demand of the cell.
