  • Patent number: 5806554
Abstract: A double seat valve has two serially arranged closure members that are movable with respect to each other, that prevent in the closed position of the valve fluids from overflowing from one part (1a) into another part (1b) of the valve housing and that delimit both in the closed and in the open position of the valve a leakage cavity (3). The valve rods (5a, 6a) for the closure members (5, 6) are concentrically arranged inside each other and unilaterally extend out of one part of the valve housing into the surroundings of the valve. The disclosed double seat valve satisfies the requirement for a leakage cavity that can not be drained, but also pressure-relieved in all imaginable operating conditions.

  • Patent number: 5762687
Abstract: The invention relates to a process for solution of a quantity of gas in a flowing quantity of liquid, in particular for solution of CO2 gas in beer, a flow of liquid and a flow of gas being combined and the gas in the liquid being dispersed, mixed with, and a part of it being mixed in the liquid. The object of the invention is to increase the amount of gas actually soluble in a liquid under certain conditions in comparison to prior art processes. In addition, the device for application of the process is to be simple in structure, cleanable in continuous flow (CIP-compatible), and its adaptation to specific practical requirements and its control are to be as simple as possible. From the process engineering viewpoint this is accomplished by guiding the gas/liquid mixture into curved paths, as a result of which separation into a bubblefree liquid flow (L1*) and a gas/liquid flow (G*/L2) to be recirculated.

  • Patent number: 5732727
Abstract: A process is disclosed for switching without leaks a double seat valve comprising radial sealing elements shaped in a slide-shaped closure member (3). In order to ensure leakfree switching, in a first embodiment of the process, radial sealing elements (1, 1*) are guided and remain sealed in a cylindrical valve seat surface (5) while the valve is opened. Sealing elements (2, 2*) provided in a second closure member (4) sealingly engage an end section (E) of the radial sealing elements (1, 1*) and the end section (E) is sealing surrounded by the sealing means (2) when the valve is further opened and when it reaches its open position.

  • Patent number: 5575305
Abstract: Described are a procedure for cleansing double seat a valve, especially one operating with low or no leakage, and a valve arrangement for implementing the procedure which guarantees, among other things, that the cleansing of the relevant areas of the double seat valve is possible with a minimal, economical and environmentally friendly use of cleansing or disinfecting agents. In terms of industrial process engineering, among other things, a partial stroke of a closing member exposes a guide passage (A or C) in such a manner that the cleanser stream (R) branches off via the exposed guide passage (A or C) out of the valve housing part (1a or 1b), thereby cleansing the guide passage (A or C), and at least one of the following areas, the other guide passage (C or A), the leakage hollow space (6), and the seating surface (2a) which has been made accessible.

  • Patent number: 5310566
Abstract: The description concerns a method for ensuring constant product quality and product safety when tailback conditions occur in pasteurizers and a configuration for the implementation of the method, the intention being to ensure that, in pasteurizers operated on a throughfeed principle, overpasteurization and also underpasteurization in the event of a tailback are reliably prevented and pasteurization kept within very narrow tolerance limits (PE limits).

  • Patent number: 5130030
Abstract: A method for the automatic sharp separation and removal of layers of fluids from a container through a headspace in the container comprises the use of two separate and simultaneous flow streams to draw fluid from the upper layer as the apparatus descends in the fluids. The entry of the lower fluid into the apparatus is detected as a result of the different physical properties of the lower fluid by which the apparatus is caused to stop its descent into the fluid and to interrupt the flow of fluid through one of the flowsteams. The flow of the flowstream is interrupted by the entry of a gas into that stream. The apparatus is subsequently lowered into the remaining fluid and the withdrawal of the fluid through the apparatus is begun again.

  • Patent number: 5086816
Abstract: A fluent material is transferred from at least one first vessel into at least one second vessel by being advanced at first into a metering vessel arranged ahead of the second vessel and weighed therein. There is an inlet for the fluent material to and an outlet for the fluent material from the metering vessel, through which on the one hand the metering vessel is loadable from the first vessel and dischargeable into the second vessel. The metering vessel has a degree of freedom of displacement only in the direction of its weight force component measurable by the forces measuring device in view of the support plane. The section of the inlet conduit either enters the inlet of the metering vessel contact-free or is connected thereto resiliently or is connectable thereto, and the section of the outlet conduit from the metering vessel either emerges therefrom contact-free or is resiliently connected thereto or is connectable thereto.

  • Patent number: 4757834
Abstract: A method and apparatus for the realization of a leakage-free switching double seat valve allowing cleaning of seats. Said method ensures that in double seat valves comprising closing elements of which one is structurally designed as set disk and the other slide-like, there can be realized a leakage-free switching and the possibility of simultaneous cleaning of the seat surfaces of both closing elements and/or the cleaning of the seat surface of only the slide-like closing element possibly subjected to product action.

  • Patent number: 4687015
Abstract: A method and apparatus for simultaneously cleaning both seat surfaces of a double seat valve particularly adapted for use in the food processing industry is disclosed. The valve includes a pair of closing elements movable relative to the valve seats and to each other to define valve open and valve closed positions and a controllable stop and controllable connector which provide a partially lifted cleaning position in which both seat surfaces are simultaneously exposed to a cleaning agent while at least one of the closing elements continues to be in contact with product. The position of the closing elements relative to each other and relative to the valve casing is interlocked by the stop and the connector so that no cleaning agent enters the product side of the valve.

  • Patent number: 4492535
Abstract: A diaphragm pump especially for pumping viscous and abrasive materials including a spherical housing, the inner portion of which defines a pumping chamber together with a cylindrical hose membrane activated by a pulsating medium. One or more hose membranes surround a support pipe having a circular cross section to prevent compressive strain on the membranes during pumping by deformation of the membrane in the inward direction. In an alternative embodiment, a modulated support tube is provided to permit the diaphragm to flap into the indentations of the support tube in a manner neutral to longitudinal extension. Support rings are provided which permit symmetrical arching of the hose diaphragm during the compression stroke.

  • Patent number: 4458543
Abstract: The invention relates to a cleanable sampling valve to be incorporated into the product line supplying the samples. With such a valve, it is ensured that repeated sampling during one long-time product charge passage will take place under optimum sterile conditions and any entrainment of product into the sealing area and the consequent risk of reinfection emanating from that area will be precluded. In addition, it is ensured that no intermixing of the product or the product sample with the cleaning or disinfecting agent will be possible.

  • Patent number: 4362327
Abstract: A pipe or armature connection includes two interfitting connecting members. The connecting members include surfaces providing axial and radial guidance upon their assembly but require only a small space for assembly and disassembly. One of the connecting members includes a groove dimensioned to positively retain an O-ring sealing member placed therein so that it will not fall from the groove. The dimensions of the groove and the one connecting member are such that the bulging portion of the O-ring is protected from damage by the extended surface of the one connecting member. Upon assembly of the two connecting members, the O-ring is urged into the space between the two members, thereby precluding the collection of materials in the space and rendering the connection more easily cleaned. This system is particularly advantageous in pipe systems that carry food products and materials that must be hygienically cleaned after use.
