  • Patent number: 4662928
Abstract: A neck mold for a glass champagne bottle forming system for forming bottles on the well-known I.S. forming machine is made of two matching halves that form the transfer bead and lower portion of the neck of the bottle mates with an annular, one-piece guide ring carried by the neck ring. The annular guide ring has a relatively sharp edge that matches with the plunger that forms the interior of the bottle finish and also has a flat surface, adjacent the sharp edge, that extends at a 25.degree. angle with the horizontal and forms a planar sloping surface on the inner, upper surface of the bottle with the planar surface being joined to a flat, generally horizontal surface that extends to a curved surface that in turn extends over the top of the bottle finish to an outer annular line where the guide and neck ring mold meet. The resulting bottle produced is one which does not require fire polishing to remove any mold match lines or beads that might interfere with proper sealing of the corks.

  • Patent number: 4662965
Abstract: In order to apply "hot melt" adhesives to thin plastic film labels for glass containers without distorting the labels, a "hot melt" adhesive which is thixotropic is melted at 350.degree. F. and is continuously worked to maintain its viscosity at a fairly low level while being cooled to about 110.degree. F., at which time it is applied to the label. The label is applied to the glass bottle and the resultant labeled bottle will have the property of being able to withstand pasteurization temperatures, as well as refrigeration temperatures, without having the label separate from the bottle.

  • Patent number: 4661188
Abstract: The present invention provides, without the drawbacks accompanied by the use of hot melt adhesives, an attractive, easily recycled labelled container, the label, on its underside that is adjacent the container when applied, being provided with a finite area on its leading edge and a finite area on its trailing edge, by applying thereto a solvent for the polymer in each of the finite areas, the finite areas comprising a viscous tacky solution of the polymer in the solvent, the solidifying solution being sufficient to tack and bond the label to container during wrapping. After the label is wrapped around the container, the bond between the container and label becomes weaker as the solidifying solution hardens so that later the label can be easily and cleanly stripped from the container for recycling.

  • Patent number: 4655356
Abstract: A tamper indicating package comprising a container having a neck with an external thread and a closure comprising a base wall and a peripheral skirt having an internal thread engaging the thread on the container. The closure includes a tamper indicating band connected to the free edge of the skirt along a weakened line and having an internal bead adapted to engage an annular rib on the neck of the container below the threads. The tamper indicating band includes indicia which is contrasting to any indicia on the closure such that when the closure is removed from the container and reapplied to the container, the absence of the indicia on the bottom of the closure will indicate that the tamper indicating band has been severed from its attached relationship to the closure.
